I'm having problems charging the battery on my bt338 gps receiver.
I was using a car charger and to get it to charge i had to fiddle with the bit which plugs in to the bt338 till the orange light comes on then if i go over a bump i have to fiddle with it again.
I was doing this then the red led came on so battery was flat so i got the wife to hold the bt338 so the orange light came on and it charged.
Thinking it was the car charger that was faulty i pluged it into the home charger and the same thing happened.
So the bt338 must be faulty.

Can i get a charger to charge the battery (lin 302) when it's out of the bt338 ? (like a cradle)
Then i can fully charge it at home before i leave the house.

I've not seen one... Have you tried using the mains adapter. That way there would be no vibration for the lead to "wiggle" out?

i've got the same problem! its annoyed the hell out of me for the past few months now.

what i've found is that the connection seems better if you take the battery cover off when charging at home. seems more stable. in the car, i can get it working on the parcel shelf, then shut the boot and the dam thing stops charging!!

i've checked the connection pins and they all seem to be touching, so i'm not sure what to do. mine hasn't run out of juice yet, but i can never tell if its had a full charge or just a 10 minute burst.

any tips or help greatly appreciated.

I took unit apart and there was some solder that was cracked so i put a bit of solder on it and it's as good as new. :D
