Just bought a datawrite 512mb card and tried to copy my original tom tom one card onto it. When inserting it into the tom tom it just gets the old red cross issue.

I have tried formatting it in FAT32 and also FAT but with no success. I have also showed hidden files, unticked the hidden extensions in windows.

I am using a card reader and drag and drop method, from original card to hard drive, then back to new card(datawrite) using card reader.

Am I just doing this card copy wrong?? What is the correct way to copy my orignal tomtom one card to the new card????

Please please help as im pulling my hair out, and Im running out of hair.

cheers in advance for your help.

People really shouldnt be needing to format SD cards, they are much more likely to cause a problem than fix one, and certainly should only be doing it as last resort. I have bought goodness knows how many CF, MMC and SD cards for palm pilots, cameras, PC PDAS, phones, and Tomtoms over the past 8 or 9 years and never had to format one of them to get it working.

As quite a few have said, some makes of cards seem not to work well in TomToms, especially TT Ones and maybe the x10 series. Isnt there another thread on Datawrite cards here (possibly under a title name like 'SD card problem'), might be worth the OP checking that one out, ISTR another make of card fixed the problem?

After having my own similar problems, I did manage to resolve it however this is a response from Tomtom regarding the problem:

Please do the following:
-Format your new SD-card, so it's ready for use.
-Make sure your PC settings have all hidden files visible.
-Copy all contents of your original SD-card (All files except for the Great_Brittain-Map folder), to your new SD-card.
-Install the map you wish to use on the new SD-card.

We advice you to install one map first, then test it's functionality before installing the rest.

We hope to have answered your question
Should you have any questions or suggestions, please let us know.

Kind regards,

TomTom Customer Support Team.

It sounds like you have probably tried their suggestions but you havn't mentioned point 2 regarding showing the hidden files.

hi
i had probs with a datawrite 1gb card and could not resolve it, i bought a sandisk 1gb card from ASDA and that worked perfect without any formatting.
i guess those datawrite card are not friendly with TT's as i know another guy whos datawrite card would not work in his TT.

my advise is, go to asda get the sandisk card swop the stickers over and take it back!........j/k

Smile

Pity they have put point (1) in as first of all most users will have no idea how to do it, second its almost certainly unnecessary, and third its quite possible the card will be formated incorrectly, thus causinga problem in the first place!
