Hi, I am sooo angry at the moment as I have tried and tried to update from V6 to V7. everytime I try on the pc (with the quest hooked up ) message appears saying " can't find old mapsource" and bombs me out. I am getting really frustrated now. Tried for 30 mins, yes honestly, I timed it! 30 mins on the phone to Garmin today (4-4.30pm)listening to a voice queue and no person. So, as Garmin customer service don't exsit I was hoping someone here could help me regain my sanity.

All I wish to do is update. I have all key codes, unlock codes, orginal purchase data etc. I even eat my vegetables and say my prayers on sunday too, but it still won't work.

So, please someone help out old freddie. Thanks.

Now, is it time for another valium mother ?

The best time to ring Garmin is between 8.30am and 9 am.
Try updated Mapsource to the latest version (free from Garmin web site) ..You don't actually need the Quest connected to the PC to install the mapping upgrade to V7 but I don't know if that is causing the problem ..I take it that you are using the upgrade set of,is it 3 CD's??

Hi dave, thanks for the reply.

I will have to wait a week to call those times as I am on dreaded shift work. re the mapsource, I will have a look, thanks for the suggestion.

re discs, I have City select V6 europe installed on the nav at present. I have the V7 city select europe upgrade discs (yes it is the 3 in a set) that I am trying to load up. I also have V8 city navigator . I also tried to load this but again, no joy. They all bomb me out with the same error message along the line of, nothing is installed on the machine.

All I do is hook up the quest to pc, pop disc 1 (of V7 city select europe)into slot and wait for it to fire up. a select pop appears and I select English US. It then tries to install, but then pops up the error message and closes the thing down.

I have downloaded the latest versions upgrades from webupdater and when I check the quest, it shows the city select V6 with a tick in the check box. I can;t understand why it won't allow the upgrade.

Thanks for help. cheers

Andy

If anyone can see

Try uninstalling all the Garmin /mapsource software in ADD and remove programs and then reinstall your original full version and then upgrade. I repeat ..there is no need to connect the quest!

I believe it's the same with most USB devices - if the drivers (on the CD)are installed with the device (Quest) connected the installation will usually fail

UPDATE FRI 23 JUNE
Well, I just received a telephone call from a very nice helpful lass called Rebecca from Garmin. we looked into the problem and it appears Andy don't have mapsource loaded on his pc and to complicate it more, I don't own the disc.

The goodnews is Rebecca is sending me a new disc and this should sort the problem. I also have a direct email link if anything else goes wrong, so all in all, I am now happy.

Thought it only right to spread the word when someone does something good.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to try and help me, I appreciate it.
cheers

Andy

I'd wait to see if the disc actually turns up and works before thanking Garmin Rolling Eyes
Call me cynical but once bitten etc.

Only thing now is, I can still only see V6 City select on the handset. How do I transfer V8 to the handset so it see's the newer updated version (V8)?

Can anyone offer an idiots guide for an idiot please?

Put the CN8 disc in the PC and from the menu you can select an excellent mapsource tutorial. Even I understood it !!

In the top left hand box.n Mapsource...click the down arrow and you should see all the map versions you have on the pc ..you then have to use the map tool to select the segments you require and the load them to your Quest ..all previous versions will be over written ..If you want to go back to the previous version ,just repeat but select v6..
