Well done for trying the 350 update, a brave move indeed...!
Have done what has been mentioned and suggested to Garmin we are will to pay (a reasonable sum - say £20 to £30) for Text to Speech (as originally promised) on the Nuvi 300
Again, if anyone knows the email address of someone a little higher that the general support team at Garmin, who we can all contact that might get some action, post it here! |

Remember that the Tom Tom Text to Speech is ONLY listed as a feature on their FORTHCOMING 910 - the most expensive, top of their range unit
The Nuvi (350) has had this feature since launch last year
It's only the Nuvi 300 we are talking of hear
And as a TomTom, Navman and Garmin user, remember out of these only Garmin use NavTeq mapping - imho much better than TeleAtlas, and always seems to be much more up to date too... or is that just Garmin's experience showing through?
By the way, Nuvi 300 / 350 free upgrade now available to 3.10 at the Garmin website |

Found all the Nuvi firmware versions at http://www.gpsinformation.org/perry/nuvi/ would be intrested to find out if downgrading below 2.70 (this is the point at which others have said the tts no longer worked)
Quote: | Up to version 2.70 of the Nuvi software the Emily voice could be copied into the voices directory on the 300 and would appear but Garmin have done something in version 2.70 to stop it appearing. |
Worth having a go to prove its still possible you would need to check what you would lose by downgrading from your current version in functionality. |

Downgrading to a software version before 2.70 should make it possible to add the TTS voice but is the downgrade possible? I seem to remember that somebody posted here that they had tried downgrading by copy on an older version of the software but the Nuvi did not seem to take any notice. Has anyone downgraded to a previous version successfully? |

Adam,
thanks for the clarification as per my comment Quote: | Worth having a go to prove its still possible you would need to check what you would lose by downgrading from your current version in functionality. |
What you would gain against what you would lose makes it a non event. |

Not as far as I know. When it first happened I complained to Garmin's technical support and sales teams but got nowhere. I've always thought it would be useful to raise it to a higher level at Garmin - after all if there are customers prepared to pay for an upgrade then you would think they would be interested. The trouble is I don't have any contact details. |
