My father-in-law is looking at getting an all in one GPS unit and I'm looking for advice as to the differences between them and advantages of one of them over the other.

I've got TomTom 5 on a PDA, so I'm familiar with the software, so it's basically the differences between the all in one units and how it's implemented that I'm after.

I'm able to get a factory refurbished TomTom 300 for £200 with full TomTom 12 months warranty or a brand new TomTom One for £215, so cost isn't really a deciding factor.

Any advice of the merits of one over the other to assist with the decision making process will be gratefully received.

Thanks

Calum

One pros- smaller, neater, MUCH better satellite reception (good for athermic windscreens and "urban canyons" of high buildings). Possibly slightly brighter/less reflective screen.

One cons- audio quality not as good (smaller speaker), no power connection to standard mount so more fiddly to connect up every time.

Other than that, not a lot of difference (unless I've forgotten something).
I've got a 300 and am very happy with it, but in your situation, I'd go for the One.

If you're interested, there has been a sighting of a good deal from TomTom (I think it was on one of the TT European sites) of a One complete with the SD card of the whole Europe map. Have a search of the forum for details.

I had a tt go 300 - until it developed a fault and I got a refund.
I purchased a TTOne from the LINK.
I have to say that it is far better than the 300.
TT1 locks onto gps in seconds. - sometimes it too 30secs-2mins in the 300.
Sound is just fine - actually my wife thinks it is louder.

Also, the unit is slimmer so much easier to carry and store.

Take it from me better technology in the TTOne.

for looks i would go for the 300 like i did im sorry the one looks very ugly to me, and the 300 was and still is at a good price £230 delivered so ive been told loads of times the one is better but the 300 had good reviews so i didn't find any reason not to get it,ive had mine for about a month and loving it

i know when buying things you shouldn't go on looks but you dont want a really good thing in your car that looks ugly imo :D

I guess it is down to taste - I prefer the look/size of the one.
Note the one has the SiRFStarIII chipset - which means great gps reception

Thanks for all the info. It sounds like it will probably be the One as it's the newer faster unit and doesn't seem to have any significant drawbacks.
