Does anyone know which Satnav unit has an option for specifying what kind of vehicle you are driving so you don't get sent down roads that are unsuitable for caravans?

Garmin iQue 3600 and 60CSX have the options to set as 'truck'.
I have found the units to be fairly reliable for this setting! Nothing is perfect.

most of the garmin units have routing profiles, if your looking at an all in one unit then the tomtom would do ok when set up correctly as would the navman units.

one thing to remember is that most caravan sites are down small lanes so it is possible that most units would take you down small roads and may not take you to the site using the largest roads. this applies to all satnav units, so checking the way the unit is going to take you in is a must with all units

Thanks

I've got an ICN 610 but whilst in Pembrokeshire recently (after dropping off the caravan) i was routed down some very narrow single track lanes that weren't much more than tractor routes, I would have been snookered if i'd had the van on the back.

I have the option to use Motorways more or less frequently; urban roads more or less frequently and to use the quickest or shortest route.

What combination of the above settings would work best do you think?

Ned

I would like to see the routes that your navigation software gave you.
As you can see from my signature, I am a local!

Post a screenshot of your routes???

Hi Strumble

Sorry but I've no idea how to grab a screenshot and i've now changed my unit to an ICN530.

I think i've sussed why the 610 was routing me the way it was. The 610 was a return when i bought it and whoever had it previously had the settings for urban roads as low as poss. hence routing off the beaten path at every opportunity
When i got 530 the default was to use urban roads the most and motorways slightly behind and i've not had a problem since.
