Answer me this.

In front of me I have My TTg 300 & a mates from work.
His TTG is running V5.200
Mine is running V5.420
Both have same Birthday within 14 days (May 2005)
Without the use of external aerial my mates gets 5 to 8 sats all the time & does not EVER lose signal.
Mine however goes from ZERO to three max three Sats & continually loses signal, again without External aerial.
Is my TTG 300 faulty ?

I have monitored both Go's for a couple of hours (yes I know its sad)
Do I really need to go back to V5.200 to get better performance from my unit. ???

I don't think you can get better performance by downgrading the software. (Try it out, swap the SD cards around).

I'd think your antenna circuit is faulty.

Yep you are right, there is problem with my go, my mates got a signal almost straight away (8 sats)
Mine however took nearly 4 mins & then only got 2 sats.
5 mins later my mates has 9 sats but mine has only 3.
Looks like the repair shop for me or maybe buy a new model.

I sent my 300 back to TomTom for repair/replacement because the signal level dropped as soon as the multipin connector mated with the one on the mount, although I THOUGHT it was OK the rest of the time.
The one I got in return was vastly better at reception all round.

Don't forget you should have a 2 year guarantee, and once you've got TT to accept there is a problem, they have a very quick and efficient returns procedure.

Hi Andy, long time no speak.

I will get onto them first thing tomorrow.
P.S. Did not realise there was 2 year guarantee.

Cheers

A couple of things - never test the units side-by-side, they will be affected by each other; the very first 300 units did not have the foil shield at the bottom of the motherboard and also all the metal bits inside the unit are effectively a part of the antenna system. There are a number of ways to improve the GPS reception by they are pain in the a**e to implement.
