Following the instructions here and at Brighthand.com, I managed to get my European Metroguide v7 maps onto my Garmin i3, with full indexing and autorouting enabled.

There is just one problem. The i3 doesn't now appear to understand what roundabouts are, and sees them as a series of 'bear right' commands, followed by a 'bear left' at the exit.

The maps themselves show the correct roundabout graphics and exits, it's just the voice commands and text displayed that are incorrect.

Is this a known issue, or have I done something wrong?

this is a known issue. The Maps aren't designed primarily for use on a GPS unit and are more for the PC.

other known issues are that are slow the recognise that you have gone of course( maybe 10 sec's) before it recalculates the route.

They are considerably better than the base maps. Base maps will only tell you to turn 'south' or 'North' etc and only have the main roads and don't contain any POI

These maps are unlocked but as the saying goes 'you get what you pay for'

What's odd about this is that even within Mapsource, the Metroguide software doesn't appear to understand roundabouts. That just seems a bit poor for maps designed to be used on a PC.

As you said though, they are cheaper than the City Select / Navigator maps, so you do get what you pay for.

Yes I did, thanks Strumble, sorry for not replying there too.

They confirm what Bill has mentioned here, that the Metroguide navigation isn't as good as that within the City Navigator and Select products.

I used Metroguide instead of my Navigator 8 NT+ on the way to work today, and the navigation was very poor around roundabouts. When my exit was straight ahead it was directing me to turn left twice!!

I guess it really isn't designed to do what someone has managed to make it do via IMG2GPS, so we really can't complain.

I am told this is not that important in the USA as they mainly use Junctions rather than roundabouts, but in Europe it is more of a problem but at least its far better than just basemaps.

You can at least check the direction with the screen as the map shows correctly.(which is something I now do even with Navigator 8 NT+ as this is not always perfect)
