When the battery goes flat, the 510/520 will ALWAYS revrt to Navman software.

Are you making sure that when you're not using it, you actually close the TomRom application?? It continues to run in the background otherwise, as far as I know.

From what I've read on other forums, there is a way to make it so that TomTom is preserved after a cold reset, but it seems pretty complicated for a simple soul like me !!!

I have a fast (150X) 1Gb SD card and I have all the TomTom maps etc on there, as well as a backup of the Navman maps. If the worst happens and the battery goes flat, the unit will boot up as Navman and I still have a means of navigation until I get home and reinstall TomTom.

saddam,

see my earlier posts on the subject, the links are there.

I've gone "route 1" with the solution that gives me PDA functionality until I do a cold restart (battery flat or turned off) and then it reverts to Navman.

I beleive that the other solution will retain PDA functions even after a cold restart, but I've not been able to work the instructions out for that one !!

Good luck

Alan177,

I don't see why not, even the GB plus map is only 200mb, so that still leaves plenty of room for the application.

Ok, well i've been fiddling about with this damn thing for more or less what seems like all day, the storage card appeared to run out of space while transfering and converting the map data. I removed the Navman map data folder to free up some space then, done the whole thing again. Still Tomtom comes back with ''cannot find map'' am I correct in saying that the map data folder path for the plus-map is ;- \StorageCard\Great_Britain_Plus-Map\ ??? and that the name is correct ?
I give up! I'll think i'll wait for smartST2006 Sad

Alan177,

Yes, the the map files go in a folder called \Storage Card\Great_Britain_plus-map

Make sure that you haven't got the actual map files in another folder inside the Great_Britain_Plus-map folder. I seem to remember seeing a post where that had happened and the application can't see the map.

Sorry, I forgot to mention in the earlier reply that on a 256meg card I think you will have to delete the Navman map data. As ever with these sort of things, MAKE A COPY of the SD card on your PC first!!

Hi Geoff,
Could it be that I unrarred the map data and then transfered it to the \storage card or does it just go across in its compressed state ?
I'm wondering if there's something wrong with the software, although I paid good money for it. I'm convinced I have everything correct. Any more ideas ??

Alan177,

You were right to extract the file into the \strorage Card folder.

You could just use the "add maps" option in the TomTom installer, but as the 510/520 is only usb 1.1 it will take a long time to copy 198meg across??

I didn't have to do that, I just stuck the SD card in a card reader and copied the whole GB map folder into the Storage Card folder.

I'm fresh out of ideas, sorry Confused

PostPosted: Tue May 30, 2006 8:41 pm    Post subject: Map Refresh Speed? Reply with quote

Hi there

Ihave an icn520 and have got the TT5.21 running pretty much ok... However, I read the OP just now and noticed he said:-

"2. the map scrolls very smoothly compared to the Navman map which jerks as you drive around corners."

Mine doeesnt... It takes at least 4 seconds to update the current position i.e the map scrolls only once every 4 or 5 seconds... Is there a way of increasing the "refresh" rate of the map movements?

Otherwise it seems to be fine.. I have reinstalled it 3 times to see if it cures it but no avail...

BTW I am using a 1gb sandisk sd card.

Many thanks for any help in advance...

Usually this is down to the POI being enabled, disable them ALL, then use the "Warn when near POI" option to alert you to the cameras. Mike

I think perhaps that I should qualify the comment about the screen scrolling nice and smoothly !!

It does scroll smooth UNTIL you start loading poi files. As soon as you do that, it slows the refresh rate down so that it updates about once per second (the same as the Navman software).

I've read on various forums and websites that this seems to be a known issue with Navigator 5 on a PDA device??

The solution, as already offered, is to turn off the poi displays. If you have speed cameras set as "active", they still show on the screen as you approach them, but you don't get any "passive" poi's displayed on the screen eg cash machines, garages, places to eat etc, etc.

Sorry for any confusion.
