Hi,

Im developing a GPS system for data acquisition for a racecar, and since the nature of that application requires as frequent refreshes (and accuracy) as possible, I am looking for a bluetooth GPS receiver that updates at a 4hz rate but I havent been able to locate one.
All of the receivers I have researched have either stated a 1hz rate or havent mentioned a specific rate at all (which I assume means 1hz)
Does anyone know of a chipset or particular unit that is capable of 4hz refresh?

I do know it such an animal exists, here is apicture of one that is relabeled by another company, but I dont recognize it, maybe someone here does the problem is that it costs $300, so Im sure there is quite a markup on it.

Never seen a civil supplied device that updates at that rate so it is special and comands a price, cheaper than a mil spec system though! - the other thing to consider is the wired option they do this for $200 which is far more cost effective and avoids the RF interference that could affect the Bluetooth signal (tip - make sure you use very good quality screened cable if you do go down the wired route and only terminate one single end of the screen to earth i.e. vehicle chassis) - Mike

thanks for the replies guys,
after doing some (lots) of investigation, I found out that
the unit shown above is a 4hz bluetooth GPS made by Socket communications and based on a uBlox module, but unfortunately is no longer in production and every place that still has any in stock wants $200+
There is another chipset module made by influx (sp?) that does 5hz, and the only product that I have seen that is based on this is the Garmin GPS 18 5hz mouse, which is also $200. Unfortunately I dont think we are going to see receivers based on this chipset trickle down to the cheap ebay market for quite some time, if ever.

to answer your question Morph, there are several existing GPS racecar data acquisition products on the market that use 4hz receivers, and the results from those units are good. I think that the software is fairly sophisticated and is smart enough to interpolate between refreshes when necessary.
