|
|
Hi Forum
First post from me, I just bought the Mitac Mio 268+ for my father who lives in Northern Ireland. After a short investigation I was frustrated to discover that the detailed maps of the British Isles only had the (very) major roads of Ulster, and only details of the largest cities (Dublin and Belfast). He needs detailed maps of all of Europe. Do I need to change this otherwise impressive unit for one which includes European details, or can I source Irish maps from somewhere and add then to the SD card? Does anyone know if Mitac will publish updated Irish maps in the not too distant future?
Thanks

Unfortunately, the Maps of Ireland on most systems available today are very lacking. However, If you wish to purchase the Europe DVD from mio, you can install the 1.6Gb Map normally used on 269(+) variants, if you purchase a 2Gb SD card. Note that only certain makes will function in a Mio,PNY(Dixons) & Kingmax to name but two work fine in mine |

Thanks Compufix . My 268+ did actually come with (apparantly) the same DVD as map on the 269+ microdrive (am I wrong anyone?). I sent an email to TeleAtlas who actually generate the mapping data, and they told me that they have no plans in the short term to do more detailed mapping in Ireland, because the population is too low .
I am interested in what you said about the SD cards. I bought a 1 GB SanDisk SD card, which I can't get to work. I haven't given up yet, but do you know what is the problem? Is Sandisk one of the brands which doesn't work? |
