second hand tomtom advice pls

hi

i have just purchased a tomtom second hand with everything except the activation code and a few other things, the tomtom works fine but my concern is that the software version is 5.100 if i upgrade this or if i wish to update anything else on the sd card i.e maps cameras etc will the tomtom ask me for the activation code again? the sd card is not the original one its a kingstom 256mb card

have i been ripped off? is it worth keeping it as it is or returning it to the seller?

any advice or input would be appreciated

it sounds like you may have been supplied with a less than legit version of the software and if so then upgrading or changing anything on the card will likely prompt you for a code.

i would return it to the seller if you were led to believe it was a legitimate version of tomtom.

I have locked your other thread, as you have posted the same question there. Please don't double post as most threads will be read.

Firstly back up the entire contents (i.e. all folders and files) of the SD card to you PC and also burn a copy to a CD and place that CD in a safe place for additional backup purposes.

The activation code is obtained from www.ttcode.com when you type in your product code and your unit’s code.

If you upgrade to 5.420 or any other version of 5.xx then you shouldn’t be asked for the product code.

You will need the product code when you want to upgrade to the next (6.xx) version. The product code is unique and is proof that you are a legitimate 5.xx user. Therefore you should ask the seller for the product code. Else you will have no way of upgrading the maps.

Which camera database are you using?
If you’re using the PocketGPSWorld one, then you won’t need to use the activation code.
