Try deleting voices - these are stored in the NUMBERED "data**.chk" files. You must leave one "data05.chk and data05.chk are the UK English ones. You can also remove the .vif files which go with them as a pair. Again engf.vif and engm.vif are the UK English.

LEAVE "data.chk" itself alone. It carries the warning sounds and is needed.

If all else fails buy a 256 SD card and use that. It will have plenty of room on it for one map and a few extras.

best wishes to all who have tried to help me

dont screw about deleting files you've made it difficult enough as it is, just get a bigger SD card, you can geta 256Mb one for around a tenner.

Once you have got a bigger card you can look for a file called splash.bmp and copy it to the card, it should be in the root directory.

Also there are some forums on here with many different splash files if you fancy something different from the TT original one, or you can make your own its not difficult.

I had a similar problem after trying to update my tom tom.

TomTom support told me to do this:

Please do the following:
-Connect the GO300 to your PC
- Go to 'My computer' and brows the SD card
- Look for the files 'ttsystem' (boot loader) and 'system' (application) in the root directory of the SD and delete them
- If the root directory also contains files called 'ttsystem.temp' and 'system.temp' remove them too
- Then run the update 5.420 again, but select 'add/remove extra features' first in order to remove one of the two preinstalled voice prompts. This will free up some more space on the SD
- After removing one voice select 'install application' to install the update 5.420 onto the memory card again.

Hope this helps as it did me.
