Is their any method or software to limit TomTom Go 700 speed camera alerts to the direction of travel when I am not following a planned route? I am running version 5.420

There doesn't appear to be. I have a TomTom Go300 and a TomTom One, and my brother has a TomTom Go700. They all seem to work in the same way, which is that voice alerts for speed camera's are given when the GPS "see's" your vehicle within the designated range in your POI settings. It doesn't seem to recognize whether it's in your direction of travel. As an example... if you're travelling down the motorway, and go over a bridge with a road below which has a speed camera on it, it will alert you of that. A little annoying i must admit, but you soon get used to glancing briefly at the display to see where the camera is. They're marked so clearly, as long as you set the warning distance far enough away, it gives you time to react... or not.

Ticking "Warn only when on route" for each camera type (in manage POI) will cure that behaviour.

It will stop false alerts from cameras on nearby roads or on the other carriageway of dual carriageway roads, but there is no way for the TomTom system to ignore cameras pointing the other way on single carriageways.

The drawback of ticking that box is that if you have no route planned, you will not get any alerts at all (although the cameras will still show up on the display).
