Hi, I got one of the heavily discounted i3's earlier this week, and I am having a few problems with POI's. Other than that its an excellent product, none of the reception problems I've read about (I'm, sure that reception improved when I updated the firmware though!)

Here are my queries about POI's and the POILoader (2.2.1)

Can two (or more) files of POI's be loaded at one time? When I load a second file I seem to loose the first, and I'd like different proximity alert ranges for each set.

Can one of the deafult i3 icons be assigned to a new set of POI's, or do you have to configure your own new .bmp icon?

Can you access the user-POI data from the menus in the same way as you can the in-built POI data (e.g. set a user POI as a destination).

Thanks for your help!

Load them all together in one go.

You need to load the icons with the POI files. Both must have exactly the same name.

Yes it's under Custom items.

Fantastic!

Thanks a lot, re-loading the older POI files along with the new one works a treat.

I also notice that you can set proximity alerts for each individual POI file in sequence too, just what I wanted!

I can't believe I missed the Custom Points, I'd looked through the list numerous times!

Thanks again.

Any idea how many POI's the i3 can handle (I have a 256Mb card in it)?

Finally, can the Transflash card be backed-up easily from the i3 or do I need a compatible card-reader?

Welcome SJP - ive got over 35000 on mine and i dare say theres room for many many more, as for backing up the TFcard yes you will need a readers as you will notice the i3 dosent show in 'my computer'

My most recent card-reader lists:-

MMC : Normal-MMC / MMC-II(RS) / T-Flash

....so I'm hopefull it will read/backup the card.

I'm up to 32,000 POI's thus far, I guess the i3 is a little more highly specified than my old Garmin E-Trex Vista with a 500 point capacity!

Has anyone tried enabling WAAS to improve accuracy of location? If so, does it work any better, or does a reduction in signal strength offset any benefit?

Yes - I use WAAS (actually EGNOS in the EU) - and it does seem more accurate to me...

i use EGNOG if i'm powered by the fag-lighter, if i'm on battery's then i leave it off. to be honest i don't think there's much difference cos the i3 'locks on' to the nearest road anyway.
