Will test tonight (well go and sit in the car and have a play with the leads).

On the subject of battery life, you may find reducing the scren prightness helps to extend the time, think I have mine on quite a low setting and it seems pretty good.

By the way, is it me or is the unit a lot louder when on car power, more testing required I suppose.

Will report back later.

Andy

I'm using some 2700mAh NI-MH's and it lasts about 7 hours before it stops.

That's with full screen brightness and vol on 5.

The batts were of eBay HERE for anybody that's interested.

Total £10 for 8, but don't forget you need a compatible charger.

Just bought the garmin i3 today and found that it has a battery type selection in the system menu, anyone know why?

I also noticed that while plugged into the Mac (with virtual PC, role on OS X support) that the 2300 NiMh batteries I've installed appeared to have more charge... suggestions?

BTW Hi folks, first post

So the battery meter can read the charge from the battery correctly.

An illusion. The i3 has no charging circuit. How did you find out they had more charge?

Welcome to the forum's .....

Standard LR6 (AA) batteries are 1.5v, but rechargeable's are only 1.2v so it uses a different resistance to measure them.

That's because the i3 is powered from the USB when it's plugged in, not the batteries.
