|

I've had Destinator PN for about a week now and have been searching the internet for update information.
My version of Destinator PN for Axim x50v PDA is 5.1.65.
Can anyone tell me if that is the current version?
What version are other people running?
If it is not the latest version, would you please tell me where I can download an update to the latest version.
It seems from reading this forum that Destinator is not well supported in the UK. Certainly that is my experience from reading their web sites and reading the Destinator Community which seems to be devoid of any useful information.
Thanks

1. Cannot find the north american site
2. I saw this thing about an update on the site, but I have no idea if it was for the PN version. Its says its Destinator 3.0.75 Update, I am assuming its for the Destinator 3. |

Its a bit unclear isn't it!
I'm running PN up to 5.1.65. I emailed Destinator some time ago and they confirmed it to be the latest version. As there are no updates that I know of I am assuming thats the latest.
They're not exactly lightning quick with the updates either so I wouldn't hold your breath :-)
Destinator isn't well supported as you say. It seems to be a variety of regional websites with not much going on. Well, the odd bit of tumbleweed and creaking signs. However, those of us who've had Destinator for a while have posted about most of the bugs and fixes so a good trawl through this forum should keep you up to speed on any issues.
PN is actually pretty good. When you first get it, you feel a little disappointed with the interface and the quirks but I've run several competitors programs, sometimes side by side and in terms of navigation I still think it scores highly. I did a long trip over christmas with my girlfriends Tom Tom Navigator 5 and its nice to see smooth scrolling screens and simple interface but underneath it has as many qurks as the rest of them so stick with it.

Thanks for your replies jdanielsg and jimbo_hippo.
I posted a query re PN updates to Destinator a few days back. Haven't had a reply yet.
I took it out for its first real run yesterday (Destinator PN + BT338 + x50v + Arkon DM320 mount). I was impressed by how quicly it re-calculated a good route when I deviated from its proposed route.
I've been doing a lot of browsing through this forum and also an Australian forum - http://www.mtekk.com.au/forums/viewforum.php?f=33.
Speed Cameras: I'm not sure whether I should have a speed camera database under either POI or Favourites. I also don't have Auto Alert 1 and Auto Alert 2 folders under my Favourites. Should they be there automatically after installation or do I have to make the folders. There's a lot of discussion on the referenced Australian forum, but it's difficult to know how different their PN is to the European Maps version that I have.
Other POIs: I shall be reading up on this to see how to import additional or alternative information.
Map Dates: My maps are dated Q4 2004. I had a look at the Navteq site to look for updates - all I found was a map update for Dell GPS offering Q2 2005 maps. They wanted over £100 for it!! Is it likely that Destinator will provide any updates to later version maps, or do we only get that (maybe) if we buy an upgrade to whatever follows Destinator PN?
Sorry for rambling on ...

Geoff
Maps tend to be older because they have to be verified and collated from various locations. There's an interesting article about it here. Although its TeleAtlas it gives some interesting info. http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/teleatlas-visit-aug05.php
A good read if you have a coffee break moment. _________________ Tom Tom GO 720
