hi guys, i hope someone can point me in the right direction here,

been using TomTOm Go Classic or a while now, (6months), details are:

GPS v1.21, Boot 2.18, GB Map v390 and version 5.201 software.

Now i sue it daily for work and visit many parts of cities that i never knew excisted Laughing Out Loud, ive noticedthat there are alot of new housing estates and new roads, new roundabouts that are not on my version of maps, which leads me to carry an A-Z, which beats the point of having a tomtom,

anyway, i would liek to uprade my map to a new one, but im worried that the new maps wont have the new roads either? i dont really want to fork out the upgrade fee only to have a handfull of roads added.

anyone confirm that the new maps are 100% uptodate? also where do i buy the maps from?

many thanks!

Quick answer, No
This has already been discussed at great length, here and on the MyTomTomGo.com forum, there are even threads where people are asking those with the latest maps to check specific locations. Use the "Search" facility on both forums.

61 Wink

Couldn't resist, sorry!
I don't think there has ever been an official statement about how much has been improved. All people have been able to do is check specific places to see if errors have been sorted. there have been threads on this and Mytomtomgo forums where people with the latest maps have offered to check things

Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me how often Tom Tom updates the system as a friend of mine has moved to a new development in Catterick and when I visit TomTom always puts me in the midddle of a field and does not recognise the new streets etc?

TomToms Map Updates occur every Spring. However they are offering Maps on SD Cards at the moment, but they don't tell you how uptodate they are.

Have a read of Andy's posting, above yours, about people checking.

Be interesting to see if they say what they EVENTUALLY promised me, or if they go back to the stock reply!

Can I make a suggestion please?
Could you put a definitive list of Map version numbers, past and present, on your website somewhere (in an FAQ?). The version number of what you are now selling should also be stated clearly.
There is much discussion and confusion about this subject reported on the various TomTom web forums.

Thanks for your E-mail.

We always sell the latest software on our website and with new devices.
If a retailer store units for a longer time a new map version might be out on the market.
Therefore it is impossible for us to tell customers the current version of our map data.

With best regards,

The TomTom Customer Support Team

With the greatest respect, your answer makes no sense.
It is for the very reason that there are possibly older versions of the map data around, that people want (and should have a right) to know what they are buying, either from you or from other suppliers.

I fail to see ANY difference between providing this information and announcing the version number of a software update by yourselves or any other company - it is simply STANDARD PRACTICE!

By not providing this information, I repeat, you are causing unneccessary confusion amongst your existing customers, surely not a good idea?
Quote:
Thanks for your E-mail.

This is not the very reason but one of the explanations why we can't guarantee your map version is the latest.
The units have the latest map data installed the day we deliver to our distributors.

We offer customers to get a free map upgrade if you bought the maps after 20 November.

With best regards,

The TomTom Customer Support Team

I am sorry to return to this again, but you obviously do not understand the point I am trying to make, as you are attempting to answer a question I have not asked....

It would be extremely simple for you to publish the version number of the maps you are selling on your website. Then people can check to see whether it is a newer version than what is already on their machine. What is so terrible about that? It is what every software company does.

You imply in your answer that the only reason you do not provide this information is that you WANT to sell off old versions without people knowing about it. If so, I think that is unethical.

I await your reply with interest.

Thanks for your E-mail.

Your request regarding map version on our website has been sent to the responsible
of our webshop.
Today we can not promise the version will be available in the near future but we hope all our new map data in future will contain map version and more specific information.

With best regards,

The TomTom Customer Support Team

Is this free update just for the 700 users?

If so, what makes them so special, surely it should be the same across the board!!

I have now received a reply from TomTom, it doesn't sound as if it's worth going from 571 to 632.

Quote:

Can you tell me what changes have been made between Great_Britain_Plus-Map v571 and your latest (v632?)

Quote:

The difference between these maps are some minor map corrections from the 6 month map update from Tele Atlas. This is not to be construed as the map upgrade programme we do once a year, as they contain far more of these updates.

Birthday is in a file called Birthday.txt in TomTom-cfg on the TomTom.
