I have just talked to someone from Garmin U.K. about obtaining V8 maps for the i3, He says they will be available in January (2006) but only to customers who post their transflash card to Garmin U.K. for an update i.e. no downloadable update. He says this is because of security, The turnaround time is expected to be 5 days.

free update or purchased update?

"free update or purchased update?" I refered to it as the free upgrade and the Garmin U.K. guy didn't correct it so I'm assuming it's free

I'm glad you asked that - been looking everywhere and the only option seems to be to buy cityselect europe at (insert stupidly expensive price) and buy blank mini SD cards to download maps to.

What's the chances of Garmin doing a deal on updating PocketGPS forum
users to V8 or a discount on European mapping.
The forums here are doing a great job for Garmin and there likes at TomTom etc.
Forum Answers many things that are not covered by the manuals as well as providing useful feedback and marketing data FOC/.
In the short time I have used this forum at least 30 of my friends family and associates have bought I3's and I have pointed lots of other contacts with GPS queeries to this site.
So how about Garmin helping us :-)

I've heard that all i3 owners will get a free update, but that it (v.8) wont be available until Jan 06 :D
