The TomTom GO700 has the whole of western Europe on one map. The 300/500 only take the single country maps or the plus maps. Plus maps have one country in detail with the major roads of the rest of Europe on a single map.

I have done all the updates on my Mac. There's no problem with using the Mac with the GO.

Not strictly true. The 300 and 500 can use the Maps of Western Europe CD set, which includes all the street-level maps for Europe, and can be copied onto SD cards for use on the Go unit. i.e. you could buy a 1GB SD card, and copy the maps for France, Italy and Germany (say), and thus give seamless routing between the countries. The downside of the TTG700s hard disk is that it make use of the USA maps much more tricky than on the TTG300/500 with their SD slot.

As far as I am aware at this stage this map set can also be used on the Tomtom ONE.

Just got mine from Staples for £251 inclusive. If you open up a business account (they don't ask for many details of this at all - it's a simple form to fill in) they give you 10% off.

Are any accessories out for the ONE yet? Primarily looking for an alternate way of mounting. I have an E46 BMW so thinking maybe near the central vents, maybe using some kind of brodit clip?

Drove yesterday for about 2 3/4 hours and the battery light was flashing but it was still going. So I guess over 3 hours is possible if you drain it right down. Wish it had a couple of more hours battery life though.

The ONE uses the same mount as the GO (you retain the ONE's clip), so many of the Brodit mounts will be compatible.

Sorry, not quite understanding that. THe GO has that ball/swivelly thing so how would the mount work? Sorry for sounding thick. Anyone know good websites to find brodit/alternate mounting options. TIA.

The GO and the ONE have their own unique mounting shoe or clip but they both affix the the mount itself in the same way using a bolt arrangement.

So this Brodit mount for example:

would happily accept either the ONE mounting shoe e.g.:

or the GO mount e.g.:

Hopefully you can see how the mount is the same ( well actually the images above show the early and later designs, only the shoe onto which the device affixes is unique. Most 3rd party mounts require you retain the shoe part so a mount that is compatible with the GO will often be compatible with the ONE.

Guys,
Dixons Stansted sell these for about £235. They had about 20 instock today. This is the tax free price. I fly weekly (work) so I am thinking of ditching my tomtom go 300 for a shiny new TomTOm one.... decisions........ what shall I do???????? Is it worth getting one, or should I get a 500 or 700 instead........

Are you sure? I thought the only unit with seamless routing between countries is the 700. If you have different maps on a 300/500, you'd have to select one of them. That'd only give you "major roads" for the other countries until you change maps.

Regards,
Mark.

I can only add what it says on the box, as I haven't actually used this product - "Navigate to any address within a country using detailed regional maps or use the larger maps to navigate across borders to any town or major road using the European major road network" and the table suggests how to do this, including both region and Major Roads on the same card, but you will need a big card.

Hope that helps. Greg

Hope this pic of the base of the two units helps. Greg

Looks like I'm right then since that agrees with what I said - you can't route to detailed level maps of the other countries (as you can with a 700), just to the "major road network".

Cheers,
Mark.

Mark, I am assuming that the reason for allowing the inclusion of the region + major roads on the SD card (see table above) is so that they will all work together, hopefully seamlessly. I hope there is someone out there who has actually done this and can confirm it or otherwise. Greg

The Plus maps do work seamlessly throughout Western Europe, but only at Street Level in 1 Country, and only Major Roads elswhere.

To get seamless Street Level Navigation throughout Western Europe you need a 700, or similar.
