How Do I Know If The Map Is Up To Date?

Hi All

I'm interested in buying TomTom Nav 5. But.....

In April two major new roads were opened south of Glasgow, the M77 extension and the Glasgow South Orbital. It would be pointless for me to get any navigation software that did not include these in the database. These roads make a BIG difference to any journey to/from my house.

So my Q is..
How do I know if these roads have been mapped before I part with the cash? Supposing I do find that the latest database includes these roads, how do I know that the box of software I'm buying contains this database? Is there a release serial no. on the box?

Any advice would be welcome.

(For those who have just purchased TTN5 and would care to take a look on my behalf, the M77 should now extend south of Glasgow as far as Kilmarnock. The Glasgow South Orbital is a dual carriageway that runs from the M77 just south of Newton Mearns to East Kilobride, passing just north of Eaglesham)

OOPS typo, that should be East Kilbride.

Neither is on the maps TTN5 uses, as seems to be the case with any road less than 3 years old.

i dont think it will be in any map updates
untill next years map is released and even then it may not be in place this applies to all navigation application weather they use teleatlas or navteq

These are not going to be on most GPS systems for a least a year mate.

In saying that I was on the m77 last week and the new road runs pretty much parrallel to the A77 anyway the only problem with this would be the system telling to use the old junctions some of them have changed slightly but the new ones are well signposted.

The same thing happened when i drove to EK joining the South orbital at carmunock the old road is in exactly the same position anyway. Although both Tomtom and destinator have you passing through roundabouts rather than use the flyover that they built.

If you drive these everyday you really dont need the satnav for to navigate them anyway. Any route the nav system picks will be almost identical except for some junction positions as the new roads are almost in the same places as the old roads.

And besides any excuse not to drive to EK is a good one if you ask me.

One more Q. How much do map updates typically cost?

Nav 3 to nav5 would have cost you £50 and it came with full euro maps as well. They only update the maps once a year at the moment.
