|
|
Hi guys,
Whenever I turn on my N35 it seems to remember where I was last i.e. home. Even when I'm at work!!
It seems it doesnt update my initial position - unless it does, it's useless!
How many satellites does it need to get a proper fix?
Thanks in advance! |

Not sure I know what you mean....
It seems to take ages to get a handful of sats.
It it just a case of it taking awhile to "warm up"? |

Threes a minimum number to accurately triangulate your position so it should say "signal to low check antenna" until it gets a fix and only when it does will it show your current position.
There are known GPS hardware problems with this PDA and mine has been back for a new 'main board', since then it's worked far far better... locking on to several satellites in as many seconds and with a much stronger signal. |

Who do I contact to get this taken back then? I picked it up from Comet but I cant believe they'll help me due to it "works".
Any suggestions? |

a few questions
What has the weather been like when using?
What car are you using it in?
How long are you giving it to get a lock before driving?
Have you checked for any updates for the PDA? _________________ Regards

Forget Comet, Acer will back their own product which is why I picked the make in the first place. You need to ring them direct on 0870 8531000 or email will get you an answer...but slowly.. euro_mail@acer-euro.com
Reading Stevens questions and not forgetting I am brand new to this game, I seem to notice or did a difference with the weather but is this real? the sats are 28000 miles away??. My car has a heated front screen and this has never been a problem. The new 'board' locks on within seconds while stood still but although it sees powerful signals struggles to lock on while moving, but surely that would be reasonable. Finally Acer did say they had a gps software 'glitch' that Destinator were sorting out until I said is was just as bad with TT3?? |

Well I tried it again last night and I got 7 sats, and eventually 9. It then locked on my position.
It seems a bit random to when it works.....
(although one night was really low lying heavy cloud - would that make a difference??) |

That's more or less the problem I was having, sometimes although the blue gps light was flashing you could wait till the cows came home and nothing would be found. If I shut the flip and reopened it, it would often then lock on straight away so I put it down to a dodgy connection but whichever since being returned with the new board the problem has gone away.
I also have a feeling the black plastic back has been changed as the cut out for lifting the flip seems slightly bigger, least ways I can now lift the flip with a finger tip rather than having to use the stylus?? As a matter of interest then how far is the nearest point of your cut out to the silver edge?, I have about half a millimetre |

The site been down? not been able to get on for two days!!
What I was trying to say is there is an half moon shaped cut out for one to get the finger tip in to lift the antenna. What I found was I could not lift the antenna without difficulty so I used the stylus because the cut out was so small.
Since the unit came back from repair I don't find it difficult any more and therefore wondered if they had fitted a new back with a larger cut out.
It's not important it just intrigued me that's all but as you have one I thought I would ask... perhaps I should have asked how easy you find getting the antenna open? |

I had the same problem with the destinator 3 software on the acer i have now changed the software to tomtom navigator 5 with no problems and it only has to work with a minimum 3 sats unlike the destinator 3 which seems to need 8 sats.
Hope this helps

hi guys/lasses , with response to a few questions i have read, i found when i installed TT5 onto my acer with speed cameras my PDA would hang not all the time but most, i would have to do a soft reset to get it to work again, but have you ever tried to do that while driving you cant unless you pull over, anyway i decided to go back to destinator and i installed speed cams on it yesterday, its works fine so fingers x'd |
