my preferred option would be to get the acer N30 then get yourself a bluetooth gps receiver. The N35 is a brick compared to the n30 and sitting in my pocket i know which i would prefer ( since i actually use it as a pda aswell!) i think the price would even out or mayby even slightly cheaper on the n30.

Hi,
I would not recommend the Acer N35 GPS, I purchased one in April and found the GPS was sometimes very slow to get a fix but I learnt to put up with this, but now it is need of a new mainboard at a cost of £190 from Acer, due to the vibration and movement you get with car use the connector socket at the base of the unit has completely come away, when returned to Acer for repair they said it is not covered under warranty and is due to misuse. I maintained that in my opinion this type of plug and socket is not strong enough for in car use, the connector is only held in place by 4 small spots of solder, but they would not budge from their original decision. I refused to pay the £190 for the same thing to happen after a few months and instead bought a Navman 520 which is excellent, the GPS gets a fix after just a few seconds and the in car charger plugs into unit via a standard type jackplug which is much more robust than the Acer N35 and on the holder there is a wire clip to hold cable and avoid any undue pulling on the jack plug. Very well designed.

Regards
Geoff

I could not agree more Geoff having the same problem, Acer replaced my board FOC under warranty but did nothing about the connection. I had explained why it was happening was due to the excessive length of the plug putting far to much pressure on the socket when trying to get the PDA out of direct 'line of sight' while driving and consequently being pushed about on the dash.
They sent it back saying I did not send the charger so could not test it, having told me not to send it!!!
The problem they have is to redesign the plug or preferable have a separate 'jack' connection for the car charger..because until they do it's going to keep happening.
At least the GPS is spot on now.
