Please help, as i seem to be getting nowhere fast -most companies dont seem to want to help being that the 3950 is gettin on a bit now.

Thanks in advance

hmmm the only thing there though is that your device is actually listed on TT's site as being supported - no one seems to be able to give an answer to this one.

thanks anyway

I had TT5 running ok on an Ipaq 3850 wih an Emtec GPSjaq. In the end took it off and reinstalled TT3 as TT5 had lost too many features that I use a lot.

Hi

Sorry to change subject slightly but i have a IPAQ 3870 running PPC 2003. When i start TT5.1 the IPAQ stops charging (Orange LED goes OFF) when i exit TT it starts charging again i was just wondering if you'd seen heard of this issue i've done a few searches but can't find any posts on this.

Cheers

Sounds like a duff charger. Does this occur on mains or 12v?

Hi

this happens with the car charger (havn't tried it on mains charger) can't be the charger though - if i exit TT via the menues it start to charge again! and then if i start TT Charge LED goes off again.

Regards

Ian

This is probably due to the car addapter you are using, if its not man enough to supply the full current needed by the pda (and gps if wired), tt5 will cause a higher power drain due to the processor running flat out, if there is no current left to charge the battery the light will go out, try and get a higher output current addaptor for the car, it won't be the ciggy socket as that can normally supply sufficiant for around 10 to pda's at the same time (god forbid why you would ever want to do this though) but the addaptor is needed to regulate the cars voltage down to the 5V the pda needs - for technical info my xda and wired gps needs around 570mA to run and charge, one way to reduce the required current the unit needs is to reduce the backlight, I will hace a look in the Maplin bible later and see if they do anything suitable - mike

If it is a standard USB style output from the addaptor then it should be 500mA as this is what is required to meet the USB power specification, without specialist equipment (DVM etc) it is difficult to see what power the device can output in a useable amount. the figures I quoted above were taken from the 12V input side of the regulator (as its far easier to get to) so basic ohms law (for power) dictates if the voltage halves the current will double so off the figures I have used the addapter needs to supply around 1,4 Amps (turn the volts and amps in to Watts then back convert using the lower voltage - this also assumes 100% efficiancy which you will never achieve in practice) this is well below any thing that meets the USB power supply spec - there are higher power units avail - its simply down to cost - you get what you pay for - not found the alternative yet will have a dig around later, and re quote thanks - Mike

I run TT5 on a 3950 and 3970. I've had no problems running with it, other than speed (it took 20 minutes to calculate a route from Calais to Cognac). I've found that the Ipaq did stop charging on a number of occasions, but I always assumed that the Ipaq has vibrated free on the french back roads

Sorry if i seem to have hijacked your thread Crying or Very sad

For what its worth I have had TT5 and memory map working on a 3950 with a navman 3400 sleeve with no problems i could get 3-4 hours out of it when walking and used a battery extender (the type with 4 x AA batteries) to recharge which it did in around 45-60 minutes. i only got a 3870 because it was offered and i wanted to change to a BT receiver.....

I have tried it with a USB car charger rated at 850ma
with the USB lead straight in to the PC

and also with the mains charger which is rated at 5v 2A

and have the same problem each time charging OK - start TT5 stops charging exit via menus back to today screen and it resumes charging.......

cheers
