Good moring.

I am looking at buying a Mio 168 with TTN 5.0 but I have been reading many reviews on GlobalPositioningSystems and PocketGPSWorld forus that the Mio locks up/freezes when using TTN.

Has anybody experienced this?
Is there a possible (non)compatibility problem with TTN 5.0 and the Mio 168?

I also read sometimes - using TTN 5.0 - the Mio 168 cannot get a GPS lock. Again, is this the case?

Any information would be great...

Cheers!

I haven't got one myself, but I know that a friend has one. He is very happy with it, and hasn't had any of the problems you describe.

Cheers,

Steve.

I'm using Mio168 with TT5 (upgraded to 5.1), and have not had any lock ups or freezes. Not had to perform a reset yet. (touch wood).

I too can report no lock-ups or freezes using TT5 on a Mitac168 (unlike CoPilot with synthesized voice which froze all the time).

Obtaining a GPS fix with TT5 sometimes takes a long time, and is more suspectable to going under bridges etc, but on the whole it works well.

Only freezes I get is if I turn off the Mio without exiting TT first - sometimes it will lock when you next switch it on. Apart from that it is fine.

I generally don't get any problems. As 'kissinuk', it has been known to lock after switch off, but only once or twice. Otherwise works fine.

GPS lock takes a bit longer to get than with version 3, but usually only a problem when moving. If stationary, takes less than 20s for a warm start which is ok.

Ditto to all of these. Mio and TT5 for me form a great combination. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend the 'kit'.

I think the best thing with the integrated GPS kit is that you can use it on foot, and if you don't want any delays setting off, can power up and start TomTom before even getting in your car, then by the time you've got yourself sorted and everybody else has finished faffing around, you've got your fix!

had mine for just over a week, upgraded to TT 5.1 and loaded checkpoint. All works fine. Time to get the fix can be variable but normally locates by the end of the road or the first time I stop for a few seconds. Integrated gps means only one wire in the car and no need for bits all over the dash.
It has frozen but only when I've been playing, on the road it's always been fine. TT5 does make some interesting routing decisions though. On another thread someone asked about brightness, mine is on minimum. Would think that with gps running battery life would be a couple of hours, as a pda it seems to last for my needs with no problem at all.

I did have problems with TTN losing its marbles and/or locking on the 168, but that was down to my using GPSGate to share the GPS with MemoryMap. This arrangement no longer makes sense under TTN5 (TTN5 doesn't share the PDA very nicely with any other interactive program), so I ditched GPSGate... since then, TTN has been rock solid.

I agree with the other comments here-Mio 168 and TTN 5 work perfectly together and the advantage for me is that I can use it with Anquet and Memory Map Ordnance Survey Maps which I can use to track my GPS position in areas that Tom Tom cannot cover

Where did you get that much mis-information from. Not from this forum. It's total crap.
