I looking for a SatNav system with POI alerts and have a couple of questions. I'm thinking of getting TomTom 5 for a Dell Axim X50. I am assuming it will work as good as a standalone TomTom. Is the POI warner easy to intall? I am aware there is free software that can be downloaded. Is this easy, and is it regulary updated?

Also, I know there are other POI warners that can be purchased. Is there any difference?

Can anyone help.

My other option is to blow £600 on Road Angel Navigator. (Very steep)

Hi There,

The simple solution if you get TT5, and remember you will also need a GPS reciever, is to download the POIs from this and other sites, (especially the speed camera POIs from this site which are updated on a regular basis and are great!!!) and use the inbuilt function of the TT5 to warn you of them. Works very well.

The free CheckPOInt software is another option, but there are still one or two issues with the software as it has only just been developed for TT5. It was an excellent peice of software for TT3.

Hope this helps,

Steve

Thanks for that Steve.

I thought that TT Navigator 5 came with a GPRS Reciever. Is that correct?

Long time since I bought mine now.... you can buy it with or without.

Two main sorts of Receiver - wired or Bluetooth (BT). You still realistically need power to a BT reciever in your car. You will also need some way to mount and power the PDA also.

So many things to consider!! Laughing

Once again thank you.

It seems like quite a faff, but it's still a much cheaper option than the £600 Road Angel Navigator.

This is probably classed as heresy in this section of the forum, but if you're starting from scratch, why not just buy a GO!
