I'm on holiday in Hawaii, brought the trusty mitac mio 168 + tomtom 5. It seems to be taking AGES to lock on to satellites though. at the moment in GPS status I'm getting reception from 2 satellites (10 and 09), and additional satellites lock on every few minutes. all in all, it takes about 10 minutes to lock my position.

do I have to change antyhing in my settings to make it work over here, as when I'm in the UK it locks on almost immediately!! I've got it configured at 4800bps nmea serial cable on sp2.

Thanks

- Andrew

This issue should only happen once, until the unit has reloaded the base tables (the almanach). If the problem persists, try a factory reset of the GPS (with WinFast Navigator) to force a rebuild.

I use a MIO168 with CoPilot, and find that if I have it switched off for a length of time (say a few days) or switch it on at a differrent location from where it was switched off - it too, takes ages to get a fix. So long in fact, that in these cases I try to remember to switch it on and get a fix (I put it in an upstairs window). Ibendlin's post seems to give a logical reason for this - thanks.

Additionally, if I understand correctly, it is important for the clock in the PDA to be correct (or at least reasonably so) and am wondering if the time was changed to reflect the new time zone?
