Hello, anyone fitted a 510/520 to a motrcycle. RAM (and Navman) do not make a cradle for this purpose. I have thought of using a RAM U bolt arm and the RAM universal cradle (RAM-B-120) For waterproofing I shall put the 520 into an Aquapac.
Otherwise, I shall have to let my wife keep the 520 (which she has taken control of!) and buy a Garmin Guest. |

It depends on the bike. I use a 510 on a GoldWing with a screen mount. The suction part is removed leaving the solid round plastic base which is drilled and mounted onto a section in front of the dash which did have a Honda badge which can be replaced when I sell the bike. The voice prompts are heard over the bikes radio system speakers which is picked up from the headphone socket and pushed through a wired FM Modulator. If you haven't got any of this then a tank bag with a map roll on the top and a earpiece would do. If it rains I just stick a sandwich bag over the unit and secure it with a tie twist, but I do have a full fairing. _________________ Navman iCN 520 |

I have a 510, which I put in the map pocket of my tank bag. Works a treat and has already saved me at least three points on my licence.
One reason I chose the 510 was because the aerial opens out flat with the device, so it fits nicely into a map pocket. |

Likewise I use a tank bag with a map pocket. I have a 12V accessory socket for the adaptor and use a flat earpiece for the voice commands. To be honest I have found that the 510 is pretty crap for routing and you cannot always get a look at the unit to see the map.
So what I tend to do is look for an area where I will need either a fuel stop or coffee break and use that as an end point. I've heared the "perform a U turn when possible" message that I've got used to it now.
Not sure what you ride but I do find that giving me 450 metres notice isn't always enough when I've got my head down on my FireBlade down some B road... If you know what I mean
I intend to rplace my unit with something that alows me to design the route on the desktop and upload it to the GPS. But I'm still looking

brakes not so good on a FireBlade, eh? will avoid one for my next purchase ;) always managed to get the Fazer 1000 down to legal speeds in time, although not necessarily with the rear wheel on the tarmac
I think that after she says "perform a U-turn when possible" twice, the device should then say "oh alright smarty-pants, have it your way" in a sulky voice and shut up for ten minutes. Although I might then have difficulty telling the 510 and my girlfriend apart. |
