I'm more than happy with the Tomtom Bluetooth MKII receiver. Always get plenty of satellites, works anywhere in the car and you know theres not going to be any compatibility issues. Its small and looks pretty good too :D

Thanks Maxi,

I thought this looked a good choice but wanted to hear somebodys opinion of it. The only minus I can see is that the battery is built in and not replaceable.

I'd guess that having a replaceable battery makes for a much larger unit.

Hi Colin58,

If you want a replaceable battery in a Bluetooth GPS receiver then have a look at the fantastic GlobalSat BT-338. The dimensions of BT-338 are approximately 42mm (width) 72mm (length) 23mm (height)

I’m very happy with the performance of my BT-338.

Regards,

Robert, are you using TT5? Any problems getting it to talk to your 338?

Hi alFR,

I'm using TTNav 5 on an iPAQ 4700 and 2210. The BT-338 works well with TTNav 5 on both of them.

Settings are (for the 2210):

Other Cable NMEA GPS
Baud Rate 38400
Bluetooth serial port COM8

Regards,

Thanks for all the suggestions people. The bt 338 souns excellent. The only reason I like the idea of the replaceable battery is if the inbuilt one fails, if this occurs it is a big plus to be able to replace it rather than return it to the manufacturer. Any suggestions on the bet source for the Bt 338 or should I just go and search.

I think your battery idea is a smart one.

A word of caution.

I have the same setup, IPAQ4700, Tomtom 5 and the BT338.

I had problems upgrading from TT3. It is important to note the small upgrade to tt5 that makes it verssion 5.01. If you software is 5.0 you can pull it down from the TT website.
I also found it necessary after advice from TT to reboot the receiver, by removing the battery, as I could not persuade the systems to work together until I had done that. Now - its excellent - but I had a bit of a struggle getting there.

Thanks Keith, I will take note of this. Reading through the forums there seems to be problems wit Sirf III chipsets at present, I think I will hold off till the s/w issues are resolved.
