Hi all,
Great forums, just become the owner of a MIO 168 with Tomtom 5 and love the package as a whole, good value for money!
8)

I travel the UK a lot!!
Mostly visiting public libraries, and I need to know where each library is as this makes my job so much easier.
So, I have set about the task of creating POI database for each authority.

So far I have created a POI for Devon and for West Berkshire, creating more as and when time permits.

Am I wasting my time because these POI exist for public libraries already?

Or is this something that would be useful to everyone or anyone out there?

I would be happy to send in the two POI zips to be added to Pocket GPS website if there is a need for them and more like it.

It's a big task I have set myself, so if any one wants to join me in creating more public libraries POI grouped by Authority feel free to contact me.

Cheers.
:D

Hi Nutrocker,

Welcome to the forum! Thumbs Up

Have you have a look at POI Download:
http://www.poidownload.co.uk

Just type in "Libraries" in the search and click on "Generate POIs" and you should get an .ASC file, which you can then convert, to .OV2 format.

I don’t know what the results will be like. You may have to tweak the locations, but it should save you some time.

Regards,

Position data comes from UK postcodes. The centre of the postcode area is taken as the location for the company - this is generally very accurate especially in built-up areas, but could be less precise in rural parts.

In Devon I have often found that the post code is often no where near where the Library is physically situated.
Seeing as my colleague and I must have visited every Library in Devon, we can create more accurate POI data.

This is the same for most areas we visit, 40+ library authorities.

That POI download will be helpful and may save some time, however it seems to be missing a lot of info. I did a search for one or two lesser know libraries in Devon and the search came up blank.

The .asc content format looks a bit different to what is expected by the POI editors.

e.g.
Quote:
-3.42533,56.0663,Abbey View Branch - 01383 724697
0.11015,51.49375,Abbey Wood Library - 020 8310 4185
-0.42,51.70497,Abbots Langley Library

When I thought they should be...

-3.42533,56.0663, "Abbey View Branch - 01383 724697"
0.11015,51.49375, "Abbey Wood Library - 020 8310 4185"
-0.42,51.70497, "Abbots Langley Library"

etc.
because there are no " it makes it very difficult to know where the telephone numbers end and the longitude's begin.

Also no line breaks so all the code seems to be all on one line.
Oh well, I suppose it's better than nothing.
