Sorry if this is a bit off topic but thought someone here might know the answer (or move it where it might get an answer).

I'm thinking about investing in TomTom but they only seem to be traded on the Amsterdam stock exchange (with some other parallel listings in Germany, I think) but the UK share dealing web sites (and my bank) only trade in UK (and some US) equities.

Leaving aside whether you think TomTom is a good investment or not (not trying to open that debate here) does any one know of a web or other stock broker through whom I can by TomTom shares?

All you have to do is ring TomTom Support. If they answer on the first ring, you're allowed to buy shares. Wink

There are a few UK-based online brokers that will allow you to deal in a variety of foreign markets. For example, iWeb offers dealing on New York, Frankfurt, Milan, Paris, Amsterdam and Brussels as well as shares in London while ODL Securities MyBroker offers access to some 30 international equities and derivatives markets.

However, most brokers will want to you to deposit larger sums before you start investing (there are exceptions).

Now get a sense of humour....

Andy

If TomTom support answer in the first ring it won't be shares I'd need - it would be a pacemaker. Wink

Sense of humour is alive and well, just struggles to see the funny side of things occasionally - it was a serious question, after all.

Anyway, thanks for the redeeming follow up posts.

I've used both TT Navigator (v2 & 3)and, for the last year or so, the GO without any need to ever call TomTom support. For me it is genuinely a true consumer product that just works, not a bleeding edge piece of technology that requires the patience of a saint. I recognise not everyone feels that way but that's my experience - and I said I wasn't going to enter into the debate why I think they're a good investment Rolling Eyes

Just to wrap this up I did a bit more research and found (for those who are interested) that TomTom is traded on Euronext with the ID TOM2.

Did you realise that the company is currently valued at over 3 BILLION Euros!!!!! This is on sales for 2004 of just €194M - although I would think 2005 is going to be much, much bigger. Penetration in the US, for example, is tiny compared with Europe.

Interesting reading their Q2 report that sales for Navigator are slipping whilst the GO products are accelerating hugely.

The only thing I couldn't find is their current total number of employees (other than the fact it appears not enough work in support!)
