Got TT5 & the new Bluetooth v2 reciever last week,
finding the time it takes to get the first fix is between 5 -15 minutes after power up.
Really strugles after some tunnels to fix again, 1 time took a reboot of reciever & pda before it would work again.

Is anyone else having these problems ?

Running on a HP 5550 with a Seidio G2500 cradle.
(Previosly ran TT3 with a wired Seidio reciever without problems).

Thanks,

Paul.

Hi

I have the same problem as well. Does anyone know what are the best practises etc to use the TOMTOM Mk2 GPS reciever? On some occasions it has taken up to 15 minutes to get a fix.

I have found it can take a long time to get a fix,

The only way round it is to power up the receiver where it was last switched off,

I think that if it's not in the same place where it was last, then it thinks it could be any where in the world and must start a global search? Bit like a cold start?

Carl,

No problems here. Takes about 1 min in the car and about 2 min in the house it's brilliant. I'm using a HP ipaq 3715.

Paul,

I have exactly the same kit as you and have no problems. Switch on in my garage and I have a fix within 400-500 yards of driving off. The garage door is self-closing so I don't even have to pause to take care of that.

Carl,

I think i have to agree with you, I don't always switch on the TOMTOM MkII BT GPS for every journey i make. So when i do switch it on in a new place it will take ages for a satelite fix i.e. a cold start

However, today i used the TOMTOM MkII GPS to go to work and it too took ages to get a lock on at Satelite when returning home (switching on and off in the same position). It appears when the TOMTOM MkII GPS works well it really works well. However when it runs poorly it just doesn't work.

I'm wondering if I have a fault BT GPS or maybe this is just a feature of Sirf III chipsets?

Does anyone have any tips or experiences to share on how best to use the TOMTOM MkII GPS?

Almost certainly chipset related, and more specifically due to firmware. Other Sirf III unit users have reported similar problems, and many of them have been corrected by firmware updates, which are not yet (and possibly never) available for TomTom MkII.
