Best GPS for i-mate jam?

Hi everyone,
i am looking for some advice on what people think is the best gps solution to add to my imate jam. I want it to be very stable as when i used a friends PDA with tom tom 3 in the past it had a tendancy to freeze quite a lot. I was also wondering if any of the GPS programmes allow you to make a phone call with the GPS still running? any advice or experience people have had with the imate jam and gps programms/hardware will be most helpfull!
