the trick for use the old version 3 and 4 with TT5, seems to be gone with the upgrade to 5.10
So I'm unable to use my 'old' USA maps with this new version.

Tomtom 5.0 used to hammer my battery life much quicker then with Tomtom 3.

Does anyone know if this issue has been fixed or improved with 5.1?

I have had the same problem, due to the fact when TOMTOM 5 is running the battery stops charging even though it's connected to power supply in the car (Charge light stops flashing and Battery Status Bar disappears) as soon as I quit from TOMTOM the PDA starts charging again.

I will be testing this latest patch tomorrow when I go out in the car.

I have found with my XDAIIs on the car charger it struggles, bluetooth on (for headset), GPS powered from same charger lead as PDA and high volume, plus screen at Max illumination - to overcome this lack of charge I turned down the illumination to approx 50%, the unit runs cooler and will charge up correctly - I have never lost the charge lights though, its a shame in vs3 you used to get an onscreen prompt to warn of loss of external power - can't find it in vs5, another of these so called "improvements" - delete the good bits - what unit are you using it on?

Sounds like you may have a problem with the charging lead simply not delivering enough current. I have a brand new charging cradle for the XDA2s for sale here.

I have this this problem to on my M2000 (same as XDA IIs). The phone stops charging because it gets too hot. the orange light is on to indicate charging but flashes instead of being steady. Sometimes it is OK. I notice it more if the car is hot because its been sat in the sun all day!

I also have this with both installations I have of ttn5

dell x50v charging light goes out on 50% of journeys (running bt gps)

ipaq 3850 charging light goes out on 60% of journeys.

I asked tomtom support about it - they said the 3850 wasn't compatible so no support for it (thanks guys) and the car charger must be defective on the dell instance - despite it working ok when ttn5 isn't running.

So if you're waiting for a fix don't bother as tomtom won't acknowledge that this is a problem.

5.10 made no difference to this issue on the dell - haven't checked the ipaq.

My IPAQ 3975 is having no problems with charging. I just made a 600 mile trip to Saute Ste Marie in Michigan and charge stayed full the whole time. I use the Arkon CM705 Powered Car Mount Cradle which I bought off Ebay. Realy cheap and seems to work pretty well.

I posted a while ago that the "on external power"/"charging" light on my 3870 goes out after a few minutes running TTN5 (and now TTN5.1). It also fails to display the "charge state" on the TTN5 Status Summary page correctly.

If I bring up the PPC Battery State page, whilst TTN5 is running, it starts off being blank, but eventually catches up and does displays the battery state.

I reported it to TomTom, but other than the response that "was my cable OK?" got no further.

However, I have found that my iPAQ is actually being charged successfully. Therefore I have come to the conclusion that its just that processor can't keep up with running TTN5 AND keeping a tally on the battery/charging state.

At least I can now use the "Other Bluetooth GPS" option with TTN5.1 and it has stopped popping up the Bluetooth Broswer every few seconds! Dosn't seem to have fixed any other "features" though (though its possible the ridiculously early warnings have been improved).

Cheers, Jim

have installed upgrade 5.1 onto my HX4700 and it works as far as closing down the program, although have not completed any long trips.

However, when running demo mode the programe restarts the journy after completing only 84 miles of the palnned journy, is this a common problem Rolling Eyes

Yes, this was reported early in June. There is a limit on the length of journey which can be stored in demo mode

Thanks for this tip.
Loaded it last night and used it today.
With various scenarios - loosing TT Traffic/bluetooth/grps link - switching off - downloading email and surfing web - all worked okay and didn't need to do a soft reset all day.
Hope this bodes well for tonights Euro Lottery.
Next test is to give Skype a go.

Cheers,

I have installed this update and can confirm it changed my Version to 5.10.

However your not missing anything as it still freezes when using GPRS to download Traffic

Maybe when Version 5.999 is out it will work then!

Cheers

Good Luck

Lee

my traffic worked even before installing the upgrade. It just slows down a bit while it's downloading, maybe you don't have enough free memory.
The problem I have is when I close TomTom, my XDA crashes and have to restart it.
Everything works fine if I leave it running, but it drains the battery in no time with Bluetooth on.
Also if someone rings me when navigating there is a 2 second delay before I can hear the caller after answering.
I've only installed the upgrade today so I'll let you know if there's an improvement
