|
|
I notice that the GPS signal with TT5 seems to be lost more frequently than it was with TT3. When dropping into a dip, or passing under trees, the signal seems to be lost for a few moments. If I have the GPS display on, some satellites with quite good signals go grey, then go back to blue and the map display achieves its glorious technicolor once again. With TT3 it seemed to hold on to the signal much better in the same locations.
Have other people noticed this?

Definitely.
The signal retention in v5 is MUCH worse than in v3. How can this be ??? It is supposed to be an UPGRADE, which suggests to me that things should get BETTER - Not WORSE !!!!
I am not overly impressed with this "undocumented feature" (aka "Bug") in TT5.
I hope that the update will help this. |

I get the same problems. luckily 99% of the time it doesn't happen, but with TT3 I virtualy never lost the signal, her as no it randomly looses sats and goes down, before I used to easily get 9 most of the time, and occasionally up to 11 raely, now its 8 at best. can we have the TT3 driver back please TT???? it was much better i think everyone else thinks so....

Did you all upgrade your GPS receivers aswell as as the software? If not (and I'm not really much of a techy so I could be wrong) but I thought it was the receiver that did all the linking with the sattelites. So, if you're using the same receiver but different software, I'd have thought you shouldn't have noticed any difference in the signal.
For what its worth I'm running TTN5 (not an upgrade) on an XDAIIs with the new Tomtom MkII receiver and I hardly ever lose the signal. In fact even with the receiver in the glove box and going under a motoway bridge I never lose a signal.
Maybe someone whos a bit more technologically savvy then me (i.e. most of you) can correct me if I'm wrong about the signal thing. |

No, I made no changes to the receiver. But in TT5, if you look at the GPS display, you can often see very strong signals from 7 or 8 satellites, but only 2 or 3 or 4 are blue, having been acquired by the TT5 GPS driver

I also find this a huge problem. TTN3 used to be an asset to me, helping me get to places. Now I am unable to rely on it. This has nothing to do with the hardware, its the GPS driver that they have built into TTN5 that is at fault. I too am hoping it will be fixed ASAP _________________ TomTom Go 520, HTC Wildfire with CoPilot Live Premium UK & CoPilot Live Standard USA |

Sorry for the second post but I think TomTom may take this more seriously if more customers raise it with them directly as a problem.
I reported it about a month ago for my set-up but the more instances of it that get reported the better chance of a fix I think.
From memory, you go to their site, into support and have to do a search for the problem in the FAQ before you get the option to send them an email/complete a form to log the fault.
Good luck everyone - we all paid a lot of cash for this so lets make them fix it. _________________ TomTom Go 520, HTC Wildfire with CoPilot Live Premium UK & CoPilot Live Standard USA |
