instaled ttn 5 no probs,but the full postcode search seems to be different from my ttn3 ,i used to put 7 didgit postcode in on tt3 and it would take me straight to door ,now with ttn5 i use the full postcode search it then asks me for street and house number what is the point of this ,am i doing somethind wrong

Seven digit postcodes would never have taken you to a door, but to a point. My seven digit postcode covers about half a dozen houses. Some cover more than that.

Never-the-less, Tim, you shouldn't need to qualify a 7 digit postcode with a street name.

You have created a tomtom directory at the same level as the map directory.

Sorry to be such a n00b are you saying that for me to get the full functionality of TTN5 I have to create a folder in the map directory? If so, why was this not done when I installed the software? |

No, agreed. I guess it's Tomtom's way of confirming their data with the end user. If they got lots of compaints saying that AB12 3CD wasn't Tomtom Avenue then they'd know their data needed looking at.

TT5 tags the nearest street/road that goes with that Postcode. It's tagged so that you can verify the street, (you don't have to select the street), then select the house number if there is one.
Incidentally, there are some discrepancies in the OS co-ordinates for Postcodes which leads to the wrong roads being attributed to a particular Postcode.

Those are the DELIBERATE ones put in so the Post Office know who is using their data without consent. That's how Digitools got caught out. |

Create a directory at the same level as the map directory so that you get
\Map Directory
\tomtom
\zip
The tomtom directory may be empty.
It was just a simple oversight in their install routing easily done, :D

It's one of the many bugs in tt5. You need to manually create an empty folder named tomtom on the storage card. The 7 digit post code will then work. Without the folder it will work in the same way as TT3. |

I think from the original post that he has the correct instalation..just a query on why the need for qualification of the street name and number.
I personally find this a good double check. It helps with postcode entry errors and at least attempts to narrow down your destination to the front door (if you have an addresss as well as the code) rather than some vague point within the postcode. |

| As has already been said, a post code can cover more than one address, therefore it is impossible to navigate door to door using any postcode program. I can't understand why people are so anti the postcode in TT5, at the end of the day it seems almost as accurate as the Digitools one, which incidentally also took you to the wrong street sometimes and you still had to confirm the actual address to navigate to. Even the web based postcode searches don't come up with the correct address sometimes, I was once given the choice of 4 different streets to choose from on the web!! |
