Hi all,

I am driving with Navigon 5 for a couple of weeks now and am quite happy with it so far. OK, I know, there is no TMC but I already bought it before I heard about this in this forum. So it's back to listening to the radio to know, what's going on on the streets.

I do however miss one thing in MN5 which is the speed info feature. You know the one , where it warns you about exceeding the speed limit for the road you are driving on. I have tried it on local roads, A and M roads and couldn't trigger the speed warning, although I have set the buffer quite low to 5mph just to see it coming up (without running the risk of getting a speeding ticked during the test ;-))

Does this mean that when Navigon compiled the map for the UK:
a) it left out the speed information for the roads
b) Navteq hasn't got speed info for UK roads yet?

Cheers

Tom

Tomcat,
I tried the same thing with speed info this weekend and it does work. The problem I have seen with it is that the speed indicated on the speedo. bears little relationship to the speed shown on the satnav.
I know that car speedo's are a bit out but the difference I was seeing was nearly ten percent.
Don't know if its my car or the satnav, and not willing to test it by a GATSO to find out!!

But the speed warning does work, although only on Motorways and 'A' roads.

On a different subject, the sound file seems to have entries missing. When I was on the M42 southbound to the M40 the voice command missed part of the announcement.
I was expecting something like "Please keep left and join the M40 in half a mile".
What I got was "Please and join the M40 in half a mile"
Have you noticed this??

Hi alistairm1,

thanks for the reply, I have to try this again maybe reducing the tolerance (i.e. warn 5mph over speed instead of 10mph).

As for the accuracy of the GPS-calculated speed, it is after all a continuoulsy updated average speed using the time and position of 1 second ago and now. So you only know what you where doing a moment ago. With GPS you never know your current speed.

And yes, I heard this problem with missing soundfiles, too. But in my case, it doesn't happen all the time. I got the impression that it only occurs, when the pocketPC is running on a higher CPU load. I must add that I have the POI warner running on top of MN5 and POI warner plays its own sound files. Could be that the sound processor on a pocketpc can't handle too much (I am using a HP ipaq 5450)

I alsways do a soft reset before I start MN5, so try this and see if it at least improves the missing sound problem.

Hi Tomcat,
Thanks for the info on the missing sound files.
I am also running POIWarner 5 but on old hardware (iPAQ 3850 and Navman 3450 sleeve).
Could be I need some new hardware!!

Good luck with the speed test (I have mine set at 5mph over and was showing 80mph on the car before the warning of 75mph on the GPS kicked in)
