From TomTom 5 advertising:
Quote: | Postcode navigation for simple and accurate selection of your destination. |
Dictionary definition of "Acccurate":
Quote: | Absolutely correct; making no mistakes. |
I think some liberties have been taken with the advertising then!!!

I agree, They have taken too many liberties with the advertising,

Try the same thing with Streetmap, Multimap, etc and see how it compares with TT5. This is where the Postcode relates to a co-ordinate. |
Yet Digitools UK Postcodes database NEVER let me down, even finding a farm down a pokey track in deepest Lincolnshire. At the very worst it got me within a couple of hundred yards from where I wanted to be at which point I could go find the place on foot before trying to get there with a 53ft long 44 tonne artic which has limited U turning opportunities in alot of areas. |

No. THe two settings I tried were Quickest Route and Speed Limited route. Both options provided the same route with only a difference in arrival time. |

I think you will find that the majority of people find the software is good and are more than pleased with it. You tend to find that people only tend to pass comment when they have a problem - so in answer to the comment about very large numbers of people with problems - in this case they are the minority!!
And Conor, is there really any need to post twice to get your point across??? |

Wrong. Anyone with a VGA device (and that's a lot of people) will hit the memory leak problem.

Ive been checking over 30 postcodes from the south coast up to Scotland and when compared to the location provided by multimapping all seemed good to me. I have gone from TT2 to TT5 and its taken a little getting used to. On the plus side the look up time for an address is a lot quicker with TT5 and the maps run a lot smother. At the moment I am quite happy with it |

If a major airline used a computer programme designed by Tomtom, would you dare fly with it? |

Apparently Multimap and Streetmap use the same flawed method as TomTom, that is to determine the nearest road to a given postcode co-ordinate.
Therefore Multimap and Streetmap should give exactly the same errors as TomTom.
If you register with the Royal Mail website and check with their database, which is based on actual addresses, you may get quite different results.

Blame pocketgps servers. Hit submit and it timed out the first time hence the double post. |

That's not to deny your experience, but it's not universal

It is only any good if you know the house number of the street it pops up. If you have a house number it works spot on.
Yes it will come up with the correct street but that's it. If you've no idea what the house number is, i.e you're going to PC World, Jewsons, Argos etc then it is of little use...it'll merely route you to one end of the road or the other which can add dozens of miles onto the journey. Likewise if you're going to a farm, holiday camp etc.
Sadly it appears TT5 is catered towards the occassional user rather than TT3 which was aimed at those who'd actually be using it on a frequent basis. |

But that's all a postcode claims to do! For example, my own postcode covers the whole street. But if TomTom can get you that close, it's not hard to use the house number of the address to get you to the front door.
The main problem is in sparsely populated rural areas, where postcodes can sometimes cover a wider area. But the digitools utility was affected in exactly the same way.
I have found that some mail order companies have a postcode which has no geographical equivalent.

The first three taken at random from Yellow Pages:
WV1 3JE Ring Road Saint Davids ---- Should be ---- Union Street.
ME5 7DX Wiltshire Close ---- Should be ---- Hopewell Drive.
PR7 1NY Southport Road --- Should be ---- Foxhole Road.
Check these yourself using TTN5 and then the Royal Mail website.
It certainly does not always come up with the correct road!!!
