Had anyone found a decent fixed mount (ie not the suction arm) for th Mio 168.
Whilst the one it comes with is fine, it's not very pretty!

I use a Brodit mount (www.brodit.com) and I so far I am very happy with it. Having brackets for specific vehicles (and often a choice of locations) is I think particularly good. Be warned - they are not cheap. |

I mount my Mitac 168 on the air vent using a "W" sort of shaped bracket I bought for $5 from a Magellen GPS dealer. He said it was too fragile for the Magellen GPS, but it is very stable for my 168 for almost a year now.
I take the audio out of the 168 via a casette adaptor and put the signal into my Honda's stereo system. I also feed the signal from my portable cd mp3 player into the same casette adaptor, and the sound is excellent. I thus have music and gps voice commands at the same time, without interference. More information readily available if anyone is interested.

I just fixed the mounting sleeve from the original kit to an air vent using tie-wraps. Much more discrete than the suction cup/arm and I can reach the display, which I couldn't with the windscreen mount.

Got any pictures of how you done that ?
My windscreen mount broke and the one i've just ordered that was supposed to be 8" in length has actually turned out to be 5" in length !!!! If this is no good then i'll be looking at alternative mount methods and yours sounds interesting !
