Been using the Navman for sometime; but getting a bit fedup with long fix times as well as inability to use custom POI's, so thinking of getting a Leadtek GPS receiver. I gather I wont be able to use SmartST Pro with this, so..

1. Can TomTom show road labels in navigator view like SmartSt. This was a feature I quite like, esp driving in the city.

2. If not,can I run both Navman and TomTom on the same device, ie SmartSt pro for the map view using the navman sleeve and tomTom for navigation and custom POI's eg speedcams, using the gps mouse. Then I could switch between the two using a hardware button

3. I believe it isnt possible to use Smartstpro with any receiver other than navman. Is this likely to change anytime soon

4. Is the 3d view in tomtom a really useful feature? It seems to me it could get a bit confusing when a few roundabouts are close together

Technically no, Navman will only support their own hardware currently with SmartST Pro.

1. No, unfortunately.

2. There's no reason why you can't. If SmartST Pro is talking to the Navman sleeve, and TomTom talking to a Leadtek, it will work, the only issue you have is the amount of memory available, as SmartST Pro is still quite a memory hog using around 12mb of available ram, add another 8-10mb for TomTom Navigator and you could be tight.

3. There is a hack out there, but I believe it's been patched since SP1 (might be wrong), but you have to fiddle around in the registry after each soft reset to get it to work (so I'd really say no here).

4. It can help, round abouts nearer you get closer. Either way you in Navigator's 2D or 3D screen you always get the full route highlighted, so generally navigating over roundabouts isn't a problem.

thanks

I got ttnav2 and a leadtek 9532 and have both installed to my ppc along with a navman sleeve. I've been running both over the last week so. They seem to coexist without probs. The leadtek is much much faster; seconds for a fix vs minutes with the navman sleeve

I found that even after exiting ttnav2 it will continue to run and give instructions in the background, whereas smartst will lose the satellite fix and have to reacquire (when I switch between the two)

It's a shame that ttnav doesn't have the same maps as smartst, it would be (almost)perfect
