Hi,
I was going to buy the MI0 168, but then I saw that on ebay there was a RS version. On reading about what the differences were it seems that the RS version has the enhanced sensitivity and shorter roaming time + Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition !!

Its going cost me an extra 69 pounds for the RS model although it includes sd card etc but I could do without the extra costs.

My question to you all is, is it worth going for this RS model?

Cheers

Paul

I have a Mio168 (3 months) and also a Medion 95000 (re-branded Mio168 - 8 months) and I have not had any problems with them at all, the time taken to locate a sat from a cold start is around 40-50 seconds, the unit is already very sensitive, both my units pick up the sats in my house, and work fine when just placed on the passenger seat.

The add on eBay seems to suggest that the box's may have been opened ! WHY, if it is new.

Note also, there is no navigation software included.

Try some of the web sites around this forum and see what they have.

A couple of points - neither the european or global Mio websites say anything about an 'RS' version of the Mio 168, and it is not clear if the device includes navigation software (some Mio 168 come bundled with MioMap, some don't). I am not an ebay regular so I don't know why they are making so much fuss about it not being a US import (is this a bad thing?) when it would appear it may be imported from Israel.

I have a 'basic' Mio 168 and it works fine - no problems with sensitivity. The car kit with it works fine.

As Pocketgps has said, you are better off trying some of the websites linked from here (you can check opinions of the traders by looking in the 'Retailers to buy from or avoid' forum). Also Novatech have the Mio 168 for £210:

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?MIO-168

This includes MioMap and an SD card.

HTH,

Chris

Yeah, I know, but he doesn't like buying over t'internet (Novatech are local to us).

I've offered to order one for him, but time will tell - it's up to him now.

Cheers,

Chris

In case anyone is interested, Novatech have the Mio168 back in stock @ £233.82 (inc VAT) (34 of them as I type this).

John.

From what I can see, the 'RS' version is only available in certain markets - in the UK we apparrently have to make do with the standard version (or a grey import)

I have seen (and used) both versions (RS version briefly) both with CoPilot software.

My initial impression was that the 'RS' was a little better (it has the second edition of windows mobile 2003), but not so much better that you shouldn't buy the standard version.
