OFF THREAD.... RF Connector

Hi agian ELDAR, sorry I have only bad news on the RF connector front. The nearest I could get to the correct type would be a "reverse SSMB" which are as rare as hens teeth. I tried to get some but the supplier would only sell in quantities of greater than 100 !!!!

Another supplier wanted over 14 GBP each for some gold plated ones. I have not had the time to do any more hunting for the connector this month but may start looking again in January.

I have to wonder if it is now worth the hassle as the external antennas seem to be back in stock and this connector seems to be a real "odd ball" which could cost a lot to source. This may make a DIY mount modification uneconomic. I hate to be beaten though :-(

Tom Tom have been clever in using the custom RF connector but also flippin unfriendly as well ! Good marketing I suppose.

This is why i said it needs soldering, if you try and do it yourself.

I'm sorry, but that's not what you said. You said that the battery IS SOLDERED into the unit, which is not correct. And no, it doesn't require soldering if you do-it-yourself provided you get hold of the right component, i.e. a battery with the leads.

That's the BIG Question.

Getting the Right Componant

As Frazzle said,

TomTom have been cunning, why they couldn't put it in a battery compartment, for easy changing is silly designing.

Still,it does it's job.

ok, guys. the pictues you saw was my dismantled TTGO unit.

it still is in fact.....

the battery can be taken out the unit without soldering at all. there is a connector at the end of the leads that goes onto the TTGO board.

so, to replace it -- no need for soldering, except, maybe, to transfer the wiring to your new pack.

with a screwdriver (torqx) you indeed can replace the battey within 15 minutes. In fact, I can disassemble and have the battery here in about 5 minutes.....

Probably not. TT advices that you charge your GO 300 fully before you try to update anything, so you do not get into troubles when the GO runs out of battery during the update.
