UNLESS you use one the new Plus maps. At the risk of duplicating what has been said in other threads, a Plus map is a detailed (street level) map of one region/country plus the Major Roads of Europe (inc GB) - all integrated into a single map.
Thus with a France Plus map you could navigate from a main road or town (but not detailed street address) in England to a detailed street address in France, without having to change maps.
The maps which you get when you upgrade a single country map or the Maps of Western Europe CD set are apparently Plus maps - so for some people this may be a good reason for upgrading even if the actual in-country content hasn't been fully updated. _________________ Roger

Darren,
thanks for all the advice. I was able to find a France card at www.totalpda.co.uk , they were the only people I could find with any SD cards in stock so I have ordered one from them by phone.
Thanks again

It's the right process - but I'm a bit worried about the 2 minutes - I would expect it to take longer than that. In Windows Explorer - or whatever equivalent you use - select the backup folder on your PC, right click it and select properties. What size it is, and how many files/sub-folders does it contain? It should be well over 100MB. If it isn't, you've only succeeded in copying some of the files, and will have to do it again. Make sure that your view options include viewing hidden and system files. _________________ Roger

That looks about right and I would say that you have done a Full Backup. _________________ Richard

I'm trying for the first time to safeguard my SD card (TomTom GO 300) and have read all the previous instructions in this thread. After plugging into my PC I select 'drive E' but nothing happens. Sometimes I get the eggtimer for a long time, and sometimes, nothing. Any help anyone can give me would be very much appreciated. (Hope someone is still reading this thread) |

I'm assuming you turned your TTG on after plugging into the PC. What version of Windows (or Mac), are you using? What do you see on the TTG screen?
A little more information will help us to help you. _________________ Richard

Thank you Richard for your suggestion. Yes I turned on TTG. I'm on Windows 2000 Pro. On the TTG screen was an image of a red cross on a hand presumably about to pull out the USB lead, and a blue SD card. I've tried a different USB lead (so have tried USB1 and USB2) - still no result. Also I tried the CD setup possibility, but that didn't take me further than about the third page of instructions then stuck. However I understand this method wouldn't have copied the maps. I'm feeling disappointed and don't know what to do next |

Thanks again Richard. Looks as if I'll have to find someone with a 'successful' machine and ask them to do it for me. Don't know where to start though .......... I know someone with a Mac - that's a possibility! |

Good. At least you are now able to connect to a computer. Only the Win2000 problem to overcome. _________________ Richard

I don't think I can overcome the Win2000 problem - I think it's something to do with Linux that apparently TTG uses but Win doesn't ..... |

When the TTG is connected via the USB it acts as a card reader and Linux has no influence. _________________ Richard
