I'm absolutely disgusted with the tone and content of TT's "helpdesk" attitude.
I work for a MAJOR American IT company working on a Government project here in the UK, and if I ever dared send out correspondence such as that which I've read on this thread, I would probably be fired - and with good cause.
What horrendous customer support. I can see their point related to only supporting TT-approved hardware as it is often the unknown variable in diagnosing issues which cannot be internally recreated. Though you'd think in the interests of their OWN profits they would build in basic support for even the most common third party products, as not everyone is a brand new customer and probably has used other products and hardware in the past. It's called basic idiot-proofing.
Whatever the reasons and the validity of the above related to their refusal to support third party GPS, it does NOT excuse the exceptionally poor customer service that I've read here. What happened to:
"We regret that you are experiencing issues with our product, however currently our software has only been compatibility-tested with our own GPS hardware. We are sorry but we are unable to conduct such testing using third party suppliers due to availability and financial restrictions" etc, etc. Not...
"You are not our customer related to GPS, you are our customer with the TT software. I will not be involved with any diagnosing of your issue with the third party GPS product. Get one of ours and see if the problem's still there."
What kind of customer awareness training did these jokers go on, if any???
Idiots!!! |

Clearly the responses supplied bt TomTom's CS are derisable and indeed not true as TomTom does support GPS receivers that follow the NMEA standard. It has been extensively tested with a wide range of 3rd party receivers.
However the issues some people are experiencing appear to be particular combinations of PDA/GPS. TomTom's CS appear not to understand this a yet and TomTom need to urgently clarify this with their support staff. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Does pocket GPS have any communications at a higher level within TT? If so can you bring this thread to their attention and point out the damage it doing to their reputation. |

... once again PocketGPSWorld Forums reslove issues that others (TT) cannot!
I was directed to another thread about the Fortuna Clip On BT GPS where it was suggested changing from the XT setting ot the ST setting (I had given up & gone back to v3 btw & trying to get a refund from TT)
Here's a bit of my response in the other thread ...
Quote: | ... I went through the whole uninstall reinstall malarkey again having changed my GPS device from XT setting to ST and bingo v5 now works and even more amazingly doesn't mess around when I load Memory Map 8O
It has been said many times but I would like to reiterate if you want real support for your GPS Hardware & Software there is only one place to come - HERE!
One very happy bunny ... Paul ;) |

I'd just like to echo that comment.
If it hadn't been for this forum I'd still be waiting for a constructive answer from Tomtom and would also have put my request for refund in the pipeline
Thanks to all for their technical competence and patient help

Can anyone confirm if TT5 does support BT Sirf mode GPS units (Not just NMEA)
I have an Emtac that defaults to sirf mode and as yet have not been able to get it to work. It does work if I force the emtac to use nmea mode, but the defaults back to sirf mode.

What a top forum this place is. I've just upgraded to TT5, but while I was at it I thought I'd do a ROM upgrade at the same time, Software went in OK, Map went in OK..Couldn't get TT to speak to my BT receiver (insert XX hours of pfaffing around and swearing).
Just spent 20 Mins on here...EUREKA :D
HP IPAQ 4150
Fortuna Clip on
NOW set to "Other Wired GPS" and set as "XT" not "ST"
Started at 4800 baud and now back up to 38400 all working sweetly
Do I understand why? Nope, not yet, but I'm sure glad this forum is here
Many thanks to you all
