Alternatives to TomTom, using Navtech?

Hi all,

Sorry if this is not the correct forum

Being a user of TomTom since v2, I'm a bit upset about the recent upgrade or lack of delivery of it. It was announced March?!?
I'm of to my vacation in Europe June 17th and now it seems that they have a reverse-order shipping policy. I do not believe anymore that I will get it in time. Orders done after mine have been shipped, but not mine

Since I do need a GPS system, I might look at alternatives
The only thing that I do not like about TT is the poor maps from Teleatlas
If streets that I know of, 10 years old, still not covered correctly by Teleatlas, I might get lost on streets in Europe that I do not know about :D

So, the question easy to ask and maybe more difficult to answer

Which product is considered best?
- That uses Navtech maps covering Europe
- Runs on Pocket PC 2003
- Voice navigation
- Has Itenary function

I have read the reviews at this site, but I want "the winner is..."

I wouldn't get too excited about the NavTeq maps either - they're full of different errors. For example, the maps in AutoRoute 2005 (published Aug-Sep 2004) do not contain the M6 Toll Road (opened 2002?).

Apart from the fact that the newest version of Mapopolis actually has a POI alert function my statement was more of the "trying to be funny" kind.

There is no winner, and never will be. People have too different opinions on what a program should look like and how it should perform.

I could have stated any other of the two dozen programs on the market. (and I should have marked it as "humour"). Apologies.

I wasn't having ago at you - honest :D

as I said the support is brilliant and the program works - Its just when others ask whats better than tomtom it's often better to use the devil Evil or Very Mad

you know.

I used the VGA beta and couldn't find the poi alerter - I really do like the map delivery know - this has to be the way forward for all gps software.

I've arranged a test of Mapopolis

Does Mapopolis normally have as good upgrade policy as TomTom?

Even though I might sound negative to TomTom, I'm not
It's just that I'm of to Europe in 1 week, and I'm still
"Authorised/Warehouse"
even with a order no: 5435xx

I realize that there is no such thing as "the perfect product"
But it seems that a lot of people at this forum have tested
many different systems, so it was worth asking for an opinion

The reason for believing that Mapteq is slightly better
is based on the first GPS SW I used,
Mapstore/Mapview and Destinator

These product is not an option to me for many reasons
but the roads seemd fairly updated compared to Teleatlas
(Remeber the 10 year old street I was refering to)

Has anyone tested Navigon PNA Europe for a longer time?

The housing estate (rather large estate!) where my parents live has been built for over 8 years and still doesn't exist in any Navteq maps, and I have checked with lots of different products, however it has been in TomTom since version 1.

If I do not receive TT5 in time for my trip,
Mapopolis still seems like the best option so far
Less then 100 Euro for the complete European version

I also believe that TT5 and/or Mapopolis will be my last PDA solution

To me the most actractive solutions today, (without having seen any of them)
- TomTom Rider (since I use GPS mostly on my motorbike)
- Or any MOBILE Solution, provided that there is phones with large enough screens

If I do not get any solution before my trip,

Can anyone remind me how we used to navigate LBG :D
