Has anyone had any success using a Tom Tom Go in a Ford Galaxy with a heated front screen, or does it need an external aerial.

A friend of mine has a Galaxy with heated screen. Whilst he does not use a TomTom Go, he uses PDA based TomTom with his GPS mouse mounted inside the storage compartment in the dash without any problems.

I hope this helps.

I have a New shape Ford Mondeo, and have been advised, that there are No problems with picking up satellites with Ford heated windscreens. (I got a GO'500' on order).

Laughing I cant wait till i get mine!! Laughing

Hi guys - got a heated front screen on a ford cougar with screen mounted Go classic - full strength sat signal pretty much all the time - even with heat on.

Cheers

HEATED windscreens, despite what it might say on the box, are rarely a problem.
The problem is with HEAT REFLECTIVE or ATHERMIC windscreens. These are generally found on French cars (Citroen, Renault, Peugot)

... and Pendolina Virgin trains :P

Thought I'd take the Go with me on the trip to London from Chester to see what it made of the railline route (see the speed, 2D top down view of the journey etc.. just curious..) and even with the GO stuck to the window and the GPS config screen up - not a sausage - not even a blip on the columns.. oh well - worth a try I guess!

I'm not usre that anything works through the walls of a Pendolino. Mobile phone signals disappear (no bad thaing as I then don't have to listen to Mr Loud half a carriage away) and my laptop loses it's GPRS data link.

However, the early morning breakfasts in First Class from Birmingham are rather good (especially as someone else is footing the bill for the ticket). Wink

We had a Galaxy with a heated front screen. Sold it before we got the GO. But as we do a fair bit of travelling in France we bought a telepeage box to allow us to use the "auto toll" route through the barriers.

We had trouble with the unit being recognised and had to wave it about a lot. Since we sold the Galaxy the unit has performed faultlessly in a car with a "normal" windscreen.

Maybe a different frequency that is affected by the wire spacing?

Usually you would have to mount the radio sender unit for toll roads either at the far left bottom of the screen (for europe mainland) or immediately behind the rear view mirror, these are areas with no element and as such give a good signal area.

But as I said above I have the latest Galaxy with all the bells and whistles and TTgo works fine even tucked under the lid of the dashtop cubby hole.

Best regards David
