Hi all,

I have been looking for some time now at various sat/nav products and I still have not finally made up my mind as to which way to jump. Various reasons, one is prices, as they keep falling I keep putting off the purchase. Two is reviews, the more one reads about peoples experiences the worse it becomes, I had been leaning towards the Mio 269 as my French holiday is looming, however, I have read one or two negative reports on this forum concerning the Mio. Three, I am now beginning to get a little worried about availability. I have noticed a number of manufacturers sites stating that continental maps are currently out of stock due to high demand, I can see me resorting to paper maps at this rate. Can anyone advise just how long they would recommend to leave it before making a purchase? Within that question what I am asking is this - although most makes state the unit can be used straight out of the box, in reality is this true, or do you have to get used to the units, i.e. in effect do you have to train your unit to learn your preferences, like motorways etc. and does the various software packages take some getting used to? Thanks in advance for any advice anyone can offer.

If your hanging off because of prices dropping you'll never buy one Wink

Its just like the rest of the computing market. This months jaw dropper is next months dropped in the bin.

If worrying about getting one for a trip to Europe, Supertrader (theres an ad on the right) still have the Tomtom european maps in stock, and about the cheapest I've seen.

Then theres always the all in one route. The Medion PNA 100, I think, comes with European maps, whereas the Acer N35 has the euro maps on cd but requires £49 (online code purchase) to unlock them.
