Any news at all about release date on the TomTom Rider? I am absolutely desperate for a navigation system for my bike.

d3f3nd3r,

I've got a TT Go mounted on my motorbike. The fitment necessitated some work to create a mounting bracket for the cradle, plus some extra wiring within the cradle to provide a sound outlet socket.

However, this now works exceedingly well, feeding via a Starcom unit into my helmet speakers.

The bike is a Yamaho FJR which has a decent fairing so light showers aren't a problem. For persistant rain I revert to lo-tech - a clear plastic bag and a rubber band.

The great advantage to me is that the unit is now fully swoppable between bike and car.

Regards,
Rich

Juey,

Will post some install pics this evening from home.

In summary, I made up the mount, although I beieve that RAM-Mount now do one for the TTG.

With regards to the plastic bags - Sainsbury's freezer bags work well. Wink

Juey,

Here we go.

Firstly, the cradle needed to be wired to provide a sound outlet. This was done by patching in to the pins of two of the connectors, plus an earth, then bringing these out to a chassis mounted 3.5mm stereo jacksocket from Maplins.

Second move was to construct a metal bracket to fix the cradle to. This attaches using two longer handlebar bolts and some nuts drilled out as spacers. The bracket was made from two pieces of 3/4" by 1/8" steel bar welded together. As I say, I believe RAM do a bike mount now.

And lastly, to help secure matters, I used some velcro to keep it stable on the cradle.

The finished product from the business end. Sound signal goes to the Starcom then onto my helmet speakers. Usually there's an MP3 playing and the Starcom interupts the music when Jane speaks. Brill.

The only real issue I've faced is that the brightness of the screen is not really enough for a truly bright sunny day. But we don't get many of those in the UK.

I've got 12 other bikes following me on Sunday for a Tour de Cotswolds, so there's a lot at stake!

The handlebar set up on your fjr is way different to the fazer.

Could probably get away without the sound by keeping an eye on the 'next manoevure' section of screen.

The install looks good, but a little too fiddly and technical for my ham fisted ways....hammer ? check, that's the tool kit,, what's next? Rolling Eyes

The RAM mount will be worth a look I think.

good luck in the cotswolds- it sure is twisty up there.

Thanks for the heads up on this thread bmwman ,from the name I take it you have progressed onto the FJR perhaps looking for more ooomph Laughing

I think for the moment that my trusty Ipaq will sit in my tankbag along with my phone and autocom.

Having just run my FJR in over the last 2 weeks I am now looking forward to touring a bit so if you see a galaxy blue going the other way with an idiot peering into his map pocket at an Ipaq you know its me !

After many years of BMW-ing I crossed to The Dark Side last year and bought the FJR. A truly amazing bike with the best engine I've even ridden. A true multi-purpose bike it will dawdle along in traffic (eg the M42) or it will hang in there with the sportsbike boys, or it will cross continents better than an ICBM.

Good colour Galaxy Blue - easily the fastest.

To ensure there remains equilibrium in The Force I also run a late 70's BMW twin.

The TTG has been a navigational blessing as I've got to that age in life where I can't read anything on a tank bag unless I'm standing several feet behind the rear wheel, so having a device which talks is marvellous.
