Thanks for the replies guys.
I think I have now worked out what is going on.
The royaltek gps ouputs a ttl signal to the car charger.
It is converted there to a rs232 signal and then onto the pda.

I have been having problems with a brodit pda mount and royaltek gps I was supplied with and have just got this answer from Royaltek.

Just wired the gps to a usb lead to my main pc running xp and windows states that the device is not working so maybe got a duff gps after all.
Got 5 volts from the usb to the gps and tried both ways ... |

I have read that when the icon is flashing it is getting data. It only does this on com1 so looks like that is ok.
I dont know what to do with this one.

Just chopped the end off. 4 as you said red black white and yellow so looks like no problems.

Will it damage the gps if the tx/ rx wires are connected wrong trying to find out which does what.
No problem with the 12v side but dont want to damage anything as it is bad eno ... |
