If they don't want to update the data, then there is another solution:

Let them allow people to add there own maps, by making Map source to accept import maps from different formats ...

With NMEA, We can't download the saved waypoints or tracks, also we can't upload them back to Garmin instrument.

You are right trafcam, Magellan protocol is a piece of cake comparing to Garimin.

eTrex Venture doesn't show roads or topo information.

Map page is only showing points, Tracks, and routes.
